AVI videos dont seem to be supported when trying to download a video into media.
Get this message :

DSCN1306.AVI

This file is not encoded in a supported format and cannot be transcoded. Please upload a different file.

MP4's no problem
Can it be fixed or have to go MP4 all the time??

The AVI format is not well supported for use by most web browsers for displaying video from the Internet.

Some browsers such as MS Explorer or Edge MIGHT support it IF your computer has the right decoding software installed but this is user-dependent. Some people can view AVI formatted video. Some people cannot.

Web servers, the computers that make websites work, are often programmed to support some multimedia content (pictures, sound or video) but not others. If the server that controls a website is not programmed to support a certain type of multimedia, you will either get a warning message or, alternately, the desired content just won't work and nobody will be able to view it. Obviously, a good website will be programmed to warn the user.

This, I believe, is the reason why you are getting that warning message. The server(s) that handle TheCatSite don't support AVI video.

This isn't uncommon. The AVI video format isn't very good. It was developed by Microsoft in 1992. Now, thirty years later, the multimedia content capabilities of most computers in peoples' homes have grown to such an extent that AVI is outdated and, as I said above, many peoples' computers can't even view it anymore.

To make an analogy, AVI has become the "Eight-Track Tape" of the internet. ;) ;) ;)

If it is just as easy for you to select the MP4 format when you make videos to upload to the Internet, that is probably your best option. Most peoples' computers and most web servers can handle MP4 video.

If you have a specific reason why you need to use the AVI format, that's okay but, if you want to share video on the Internet so that the most people can view it, it's better to use something else.

MOV format will probably work. WMV format will probably work, too.

It's probably best to avoid AVI and it's very important to avoid FLV format like the plague!

Adobe, the company that marketed the "Flash" video format, has officially declared the software needed to play FLV (Flash Video) format to be dead. Adobe no longer supports it and, by the end of this month (Jan. 2021) they recommend that ALL Flash software be deleted from your computer.

One good reason for this decision is that the Flash Player is very, very virus prone. There is no way to protect a computer from getting a virus if the Flash Player is installed. All you have to do is, simply, watch a movie in FLV format which contains a virus and your computer could be infected.

If you go to ANY website that asks you to install Flash Player, click away from that website IMMEDIATELY! That website is trying to infect your computer with a virus!

From Adobe's official website:
Q: If I find Flash Player available for download on a third-party website, should I use it?

A: No. These versions of Flash Player are not authorized by Adobe. Users should not use unauthorized versions of Flash Player. Unauthorized downloads are a common source of malware and viruses.

Bottom LIne: Switch to MP4 video if you can. It's better, anyway. :)

That makes sense..thanks for the detailed answer..yeah , know about flash player and its problems, run away from that all the time.
Maybe best get TCS to alter that it supports AVI in the video instructions to avoid further confusion.
Many Thanks.
