The Straight and the Curvy have about the same stability - and rambunctious cats will knock either over.

Angle Scratch Curvy - Carleton is a persian and not exactly the most rambunctious cat, lol. But a vertical scratching post would suit him perfectly and help greatly because it's so difficult to trim his nails, i.e. that's when he gets the most rambunctious.

Angel Scratch. Cookie prefers vertical scratchers at a slight angle. I actually feel upright scratchers are more natural too- trees grow vertically.
