are urine and fecal exams necessary every year?

I got a letter from my vet saying I was due for Foleys yearly check up and it said I should handle them a sample of his urine refrigerated and poop sample. Is this necessary and how in the world am I supposed to get the sample? Thank you for your help

i have a fecal done at least once a year, sometimes twice. you will need non-absorbent litter for urine collection.

All my cats have a fecal done every single year.

If your cat will let you, just stick a small collection cup or long lhandled ladel under the tail as the cat is peeing. You can buy non-abosrbant kitty litter but fish tank gravel/pebbles work just as well and is cheaper.

My vet never asks for a urine or fecal sample.

Anytime I need to collect urine from one of my cats, I just put a small chocolate melting pot under their bottom when they are in the litterbox.
