Are litter liners worth it?

Sorry if this is the wrong spot to ask not really sure. I'm kind of curious I have a XL litter box which can be a chore to dump and clean often as I normally just dump old litter in a trash bag and wash it with soapy water and let it dry out. I m just worried the cat may scratch through it or if there are any brands worth recommending that won't rip easy.

Not worth it. As you pointed out, it’s likely the cat will just shred it and they may not like the feel of it

The only time I found them worth it is when I had a declawed cat (I adopted him from the shelter already declawed). Otherwise cats digging just shred them. One thing I find useful for dumping the larger litter boxes is using a dust pan (I labeled it and it's just for that use) to scoop out most of the litter into the trash before lifting it up to dump.

Sort of depends on how your cat uses the box. My former cat preferred to dig a hole and pee in corners. Even scooping every day, her box got soggy and stinky in the corners, requiring very frequent washings. I started lining her box with large puppy pads and no more digging sodden clumps out of the corner of the box. She did scratch but usually never got thru the bottom plastic layer of the pad. The ones I used were OUT brand XXL puppy pads bought on Amazon.

My current girl pees on top of the litter, never in a corner and doesn’t cover. Super easy to keep her box scooped and fresh, no need for liners.

I agree that it depends on whether your cat is a big time coverer or not. I have a cat now who is obsessive and the liners get shredded. Past cats and our other current cat - the shredding was/is non-issue. The liners are typically 2 mils thick. I once found a brand that wasn't shreddable but of course it was discontinued.

No they generally rip.
Putting a bit of newspaper underneath can help for many litters.

We found much less of an issue after switching to a stainless steel litter bin. We also use Okocat and not clay litter, so it doesn't cement to the bottom.

Nope. Just a money grab. They frequently tear if you have a cat who digs.

we buy these xl disposable litter pans off chewy to place into a really giant sized plastic litter box it makes for easy clean up not gonna make things lighter but its easy clean up for the plastic box none of the pee etc. makes it to the bottom( i give graycie about 3 or 4 inches of litter to dig into)

I don't use liners in either of the Litter boxes. Instead I use "Pretty Litter". This litter works wonderfully as it is easy to scoop. Very light weight, and absorbs any urine or fecal smell.
