Does anyone else have an aquarium UV Sterilizer? I added one to our tank recently in an attempt to battle the ich or fungus that was attacking one of the fish (it stayed isolated to the one fish and no one else is showing signs since that fish died two weeks ago).

I didn't realize the water was cloudy until it was clear. The water is just so clear and we've had to double the almond leaves to get the tannin browning I want.

It's supposed to kill microorganisms and free floating alage in the water with UV light. It's a little tube that the water goes through with the light inside. Fish aren't affected since the intake has a sponge over it. I got it to try to fight whatever was on the one fish and keep it from spreading. Obviously, it can't do anything about something attached to fish but should kill spores or organisms in the water. All I know is my tank has never been clearer and no body else got sick.

The tropical tank has gone somewhat wild, lol. The schooling fish are not schooling so it just looks riotous all the time. There are about 30 tetras: black skirts, red minors/serpaes, and black phantoms. There are only 2 neon tetras left :(. The others just disappeared so I don't know if the other fish bullied them or the water parameters weren't right or what. But I've given up on neons. Lots of cories, just the way I like it.

And I really enjoy the cherry shrimp so I decided to expand my shrimp-keeping. I bought a 14 gallon cube during the holiday half-price sales, and only just unpacked it. . .and found that the bottom wasn't sealed, just popped right out :/. And because Petco's website said they had no more 14g cubes, I got a 20g long. But then when I took the cube back to Petco, they did exchange it! They must have had one in the back that wasn't showing on the website. So now I have both, lol. I think I'll put the cherries in the 20g long and get a different color for the 14g cube. Maybe yellows.

The shrimp are doing great, they're having tons of babies. The babies are just the tiniest cutest things.

That's an extreme close-up; for context the granules are a powdered food sold just for baby shrimp. Here are a bunch hanging out on a leaf so you can see how tiny they are:

And here's a mama shrimp working on some little siblings/cousins for them:

Ha, bettas are so cool. When I bought this guy, he was mostly white:

I just redid his tank:

And set up the other 5 gallon for the betta who's currently in a 3.5g. I haven't put him in yet because the ammonia is still going haywire:

The tanks look amazing! Shrimp keeping is incredibly addicting and seeing this thread makes me want to start it up again but I know my betta will just eat them up lol.
