Mingo is a terror at the vets, so they have to sedate him to do an examination. One time, we came in the afternoon, and when they called me to come pick him up, the sedation hadn't completely worn off. I left him in the carrier for about an hour, then let him out. He still couldn't stand up, so he crawled out and flopped over. I was talking to him, encouraging him all the way. It began to take so long I felt sorry for him, and flopped down on the floor myself, continuing to talk to him and looking in his eyes. He appreciated it very much. He started purring and gave me those half-blink eyes. I stayed there with him until he completely recovered and he was able to get up and walk away. He really likes the attention when he's not well.

I guess I'm a crazy cat dad. Why? I have over 200 pictures of my furbabies but only a couple of my wife and son. I talk to the furkids more than I do to my human family. One of the more crazy moments was when Shade was chasing Noka and I yelled at them to chill out or I will put them in separate corners, like they would listen to me.

I've been amazed at how much they do listen to me. Mingo used to be a door-dasher, but now all I have to say is "get back," and he backs up! If he makes Lily growl and hiss, I tell him he's a bad cat, and he comes out looking sheepish. And neither likes me to coo and cuddle with the other one. As soon as I start praising one, the other shows up looking left out.

They understand more than people think they do.

I’m not sure I’ve ever had an animal that I didn’t talk to, ha.

Baby Fred used to hold onto my shoulder while I carried his bottom like you might a little kid. I still have a shirt with his claw marks in it.

I mean. I went from no cats of my own to a tiny baby kitten and feeding every two hours, calling my mom on breaks to see how he was spending all my free time reading everything I could and talking to my vet more than I ever have before (they’re also my bird vet).
After no poop for two days when he was two weeks old, my brother who was visiting, went with me to the emergency vet for them to tell me he wasn’t constipated and he seemed very healthy. I must’ve spent a half an hour with the vet talking about kitten care. Apparently, they don’t get many people who keep records like I do. I was told I didn’t have to weigh him three time a day. Nice side of it; they didn’t charge me and the little snotrag poo’d maybe two hours later.
Still. I feel that most would have done the same.

Oh, gosh! I've had tons of crazy cat parent moments over the years.

I think one of the craziest was when I'd go rent movies every week from places like Blockbuster for one of our cats. He absolutely adores musicals, which the guy at the video store thought was absolutely hilarious. Thankfully, nowadays I can do that sort of thing online, in the privacy of our own home.

I am in the process of introducing Twyla and Hooper and distracting them is a good way to lessen the tension. If I don't have toys handy I just start singing show tunes to them. This is so appalling to them that it immediately stops whatever was about to happen.

I have and still do say to my cats as I leave to go anywhere “momma is going (insert place) I love you, be good”.
15 years ago when I went on my first date with my now husband he picked me up. he rang the doorbell and as I walked out I said to my kitties. Mommas going on a date, I love you, I’ll be home around 11. He never said anything during the date but at 10 he had me home and walked me to the door. Of course kitties heard mom and as he tried to kiss me goodnight they pawed the curtain on my glass door and now hubby said I think your children are awake. I busted out laughing saying yeah my cats are my kids. He asked if he could meet them at an appropriate hour. And that’s how I knew he was a good man

This is how I sleep. Every night. Every night. If Mia doesn't come to bed I get up and go looking for her. I will ask my wife to move over if there isn't room for mia. I tell my wife to be quiet if she comes to bed after me.

Pretty crazy.

Whenever our two make cats Trin and Gohan would fight (which was seldom but Gohan kind to kick Trin off the cat tree) I would say (nicely) “Gentlemen kitties, are you being gentlemen!?” Now that Trin is gone and we have Olive I had to change it to “Gentlman and Lady kitties”

I do this too! And when I get home I always stand still for a few minutes so Neko-chan can sniff me and rub herself on my legs.

Cats distracted me this morning on my way out the door to work, so I forgot to pull the big ol' 20-lb. turkey outta the freezer... but now that big ol' bird is thawing in a plastic utility tub of hot water, it will be READY to go into the oven manana, LOL. I'll be sure to set a nice plate of turkey & gravy down for the kittehs tomorrow, hopefully they'll enjoy it as much as I will... dunno if they'll go for the stuffing, mashed potatoes, or cranberry jelly, but MY plate will have all that aboard, no doubt about it. Beer-thirty will arrive early as I prep the meal and watch NFL football, but that's okay, I think I earned it... no DUI here, the only rig I'll be driving manana is a 65" curved screen, LOL. Rain is supposed to fall through the holiday but I don't care, the kittehs & I will be enjoying warmth, comfort & quality time here at the ol' hacienda, and I'm fully rigged with beer and food, AYE? Y'all have a Happy Thanksgiving, I know I will!!! CHEERS!!! :drinking:

My family and I will have a small quiet meal and yes that includes all the furkids since we are not going anywhere and no one is coming over. We got a small turkey (5lb) and some fixings but nothing outrageous since money is tight.
Thanksgiving, 2017 - I bought the smallest turkey I could find. It was the first time I ever tried cooking a turkey on my own. I stayed home with just Reeses and I, knowing it would probably be her last Thanksgiving (it was). I found a cat safe recipe for the turkey and got to spoil my friend with the best cuts of the turkey, in kitty sized portions. It was nice to just stay home and spend that time with her (avoid family drama too). I will always remember that Thanksgiving as the year I bought and prepared a whole turkey really just for a cat. My parents thought I was off the deep end crazy, but I have to say it was one of the best Thanksgivings I have ever had!

When my late beloved cat Cucumella was still with me I was invited by my family to spend a weekend at a seaside resort some 60 kms away to celebrate my 90th birthday. I couldn't consider leaving Cucumella alone for two days so I arranged with my home helper to come saturday and sunday to accompany her. One of my married grandsons accepted to sleep at home during my two nights absence. Over three years have elapsed since then but some members of my family haven't stopped teasing me about it.

By the way the teasing was extended to my grandson Bruno for having deserted his wife during two nights for the benefit of a furry lady named Cucumella.

We recently traveled two hours for two nights in a hotel twice in two weeks to get her seen by a dental specialist (and the follow up) and have her remaining teeth and roots extracted. She’s been having tooth resorption and extractions for the last couple of years and I wanted her to be done with it all. “Make this the last dental procedure she’ll ever need.” Also her regular vets didnt want to work with her mouth anymore.

That’s not the crazy part.

After her initial protests, she does car rides quietly in her carrier. When she does speak up, usually after an hour, I know she really needs a break. I pull over somewhere in the shade, pull a litterbox from the trunk, and place it at her feet in the passenger compartment. Half of the time she needs to use the box. The other half, she’s just tired of the drive and needs to stretch her legs. Either way, she gets time enough to roam the cabin of the parked car. When she wants to spend more time in my lap than roaming the car, I indulge her for a selfie or two, a scratch here and there, and then back into the carrier to finish the drive.

At the hotel, I unpack her and a litterbox first. I get my single backpack. Then the next four trips back to the car are for her items.

I don’t have kids. But I imagine traveling with Krista is a lot like traveling with a kid.

Among all her items I pack in the car, I have a “diaper bag” for her. It has cleaners and wipes, poop bags and feeders, a grooming brush, and even a handheld wet vac.

That’s just how we travel....
