Hi there,
I am new to the forum,I have 2 17yr old cats who are sisters. One of them a couple of years back was diagnosed with hyperthyroid,
She has regular visits to the vets, blood test ect, couple of times her medication(Felimazole) has been altered she is at the moment is on 7.5mg.she is stable, not loosing anymore weight but she is not gaining much.
What I wanted to ask is there any recipes I could make myself that would help.
raw or cooked recipes.if anyone has any ideas I would be very greatful.I need your expertise because I wouldn't want to leave any vital nutrition and vitamins out.

You aren't asking for recipes to help control the the hyperthyroidism are you?  I know there is a prescription food for that, but that nothing else can be given, not even a single treat in order for it to be effective.

So are you looking for food for her to gain weight?  I'm not quite sure what you are truly looking for, but have you seen this thread?  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/263955/helpful-resources-raw-home-cooked-cat-food-forum

Just from what I researched,a lot of pet foods contain things that they would never eat in the wild, and that all these problems they get are through diet,I thought maybe if I went back to basics an all natural diet, basically I'm happy to keep her on her medication,I just want her to put weight on too,and I cannot afford the perscription diet the vet has as well as medication,
So I was looking for something that I could make myself to help her put some weight on aswell as the tablets, because the tablets alone are not working,as in she's not gaining weight, think it will be another visit to the vets,
Thanks for the link by the way,

Just to be clear you cannot and should not use Y/D (RX food for hyper-t) AND meds, they are not meat to be used together. Y/D is garbage though, it doesn't control T4 levels well and it's low protein and high carbs, useless.

Feeding homecooked or raw to your hyper-t kitty is great. Dr. Peterson, who is one of the best specialists in the country for feline hyper-t feels that hyper-t kitties, and senior kitties, really need high protein foods, and homecooked or raw is the best for that.

I would personally suggest using EZcomplete to make cooked food. Or, if that's out of your budget, using Alnutrin. You'll need to adjust the recipe a little more if using alnutrin so poke around on the homecooked thread.

Thankyou both for your replies,
She isn't on any perscription diet only the medicine.
And normal commercial cat food.
So I'm hoping with a raw or cooked diet aswell as her medication.will be better for her and hopefully she will put on some weight.
Thankyou for the helpful links,I will take a good look at those products and information,I'll let you know how it goes.
