Since Kate Middleton gave birth to a baby girl yesterday, I thought it would be fun to guess the name of the baby before it is officially announced. I have read that the front runners are Charlotte, Alice, Elizabeth, Alexandra, Victoria, Olivia, and Diana. I like Alexandra personally.

On a side note, I have always liked the name Alexander for a boy and thought that they should have given their son the name Alexander as a first name instead of George. It seems to suit him better.

I know it's not at all in the running, but I like the name Aurora. It goes well with the title of Princess--think Sleeping Beauty.

I have a sneaking suspicion they chose George because it was not a name people were expecting (and betting on). With the amount of pressure they must feel on having these babies, picking an unexpected name is a gleeful little "screw you" to the media circus and rabid attention surrounding the very difficult journey of new parenthood. I totally would.

So I'm expecting another unexpected name. Naturally it would have to be a traditional, established British name though. I'm thinking Laura.

I like Isobelle or Isobella (however I have just finished reading the Twilight novels for the nth time so I may be biased!)

I hope that Diana is in there somewhere (although i dont think it will be her first name)

Not sure about Alice - but Victoria would be a good choice :)

Since they went with a traditional family name for their firstborn, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they chose Alice. There have been a few - Queen Victoria's daughter, the daughter-in-law of George V, and also Prince Philip's mother.

i'd like to see Victoria chosen, but i also like Charlotte a lot. i like Alice too.

i wonder whether it might be a little too soon to use the name Diana, though maybe as one of the middle names. i would hope that Elizabeth would be chosen as one of the middle names.

I don't think Diana would be a good choice.  This girl will have enough to deal with she doesn't need to be named after her grandmother with all the baggage and expectations that would bring.  The name shouldn't bring those things with it but in our celebrity obsessed society I am afraid it will.

I doubt that Diana would be her first name anyway, but it could be one of the middle names.

I just read that there are some other names in the running, in addition to the ones that I listed above--Mary, Margaret, Catherine, and Francis (or Frances). Looking at the baby up close, she does kind of look like a Margaret.

I don't usually follow the royal family, but any time someone has a baby--celebrity or not--I am always anxious to find out the name. My brother and his wife are having a baby and won't tell anyone the name yet. It's driving me crazy.

I agree with Denice. It's much too soon for Diana's name to be used. I'd say by the time George or whoever have their own kids Diana will be a safe name, if the Windsor are still around.

Even though I am a grown thirty-something woman, if I had a daughter that was an actual princess, I would name her after a Disney princess--Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Merida, etc. That would be awesome! Again, I am an adult. Please don't judge me.

How about Fergie?  I bet the elderly Queen's heart couldn't withstand that.  Whatever happened to her?  I haven't heard anything from her in a long time.  She is probably a boring middle aged woman now.

Diana only seems to be the sentimental favorite in the US. I hear Brits don't want that. It's sweet in theory but that's a big shadow to have to live in. I vote for Charlotte with Diana in there as a middle name.

I like Charlotte, it seems unusual and a very old name to an American but she isn't an American.  They included both the paternal great grandmother and grandmother in the middle names, I like that as well.  It's kind of like putting all the old tabloid wars to rest.

I think the Royals only name their kids after dead kings and queens.  Since Diana was never a queen, and divorced from the royal family, her name is likely to never be given to a future royal child.

How wrong we were Charlotte - dead, Elizabeth - alive, and Diana - gone but not forgotten.
