I'm going to look into the Almo Nature. Thanks for sharing and for the recommendation. Good luck with your kitty!

I have gone through this also.  After putting 4 kitty boxes in the halls, getting the carpets cleaned weekly, etc.  I had also gone to my regular vet, tried the metronystol   (sp), steriods etc.  Then to the specialist for a colonoscopy blood tests etc. Lots of $$$ costs and discomfort for her.  We ended up putting her on a constant dose of oral steroids for a while and reduced it after a few months.  She was on the special diet of rabbit, venison and duck from the vet office and that seemed to help for a while until my kitty would not eat it anymore.  I go to a feed store locally to get birdseed etc and the owner recommended  "almo nature"  My kitty loves it!  She has had regular stools for the past 6 months and I still give her a very small dose of her steroids every other day.  I am going to reduce it again and hopefully we never have to look back on the 9 months of her horrible bouts of stomach pain and diarrhea!

Good luck with your kitty.

I'm glad you have seen improvement in your kitty. Please be aware that Almo Nature is not a complete diet and is for supplemental feeding only. It does not contain any vitamins and minerals. Feeding this exclusively long-term may put your cat at risk for developing deficiencies and health problems. Please be sure your cat is also getting a food that meets the nutritional levels established by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO).

Apparently you have had the cats checked out so I will share what has worked for me in the past.

Go to the store and buy a regular size can of PURE PUMPKIN nothing like pumpkin pie mix it has to be PURE PUMPKIN with no

additive's. LIBBYS or JACK IN THE BEANSTALK seem to be best, any brand will do as long as its all pumpkin.

I used a syringe but most cats love pumpkin so give him the equivalent of T tablespoons to start, then if you notice its

helping, try another 2 tablespoons 12 hours later.. if they are constipated, it will solve that problem and if the stools are loose it will

solve that problem too.
I have found that the natural way is the best way,

Good Luck

I had to jump on the band wagon and I haven't even read the other posts. I have 2 kittens that I've just nursed through Giardia diarrhea you wouldn't believe I felt like I was the litter box queen because I was always cleaning it. BUT the most important thing I can tell you - short and sweet is I gave my babies the Vets ID/Science Diet (this to ease their sore tummies) and then transitioned them to Merrick's Kitten food. Merrick  and Canada are the two top pet foods on the market!!! Very expensive but we, my husband and I both agree that we'd rather spend the money on food than vet bills. Cats need more protein in their diets and both foods mentioned above have only protein, sweet potato and peas. Absolutely no fillers. My daughter has 3 cats and they are so fat but it's because she's feeding them foods both wet and dry that have corn meal, rice meal and other high carb fillers that they don't need my cats especially my 13 year old Bengal are all very lean. Also I leave the dry food down all day - think about it in the wild, is there someone to take their food away from them? If your feeding them dry they should be able to graze. Even our vet said that canned foods are okay a couple of spoons full a day but no more.

Okay, hope you have a chance to read this and that it helps.

I am sorry it should be 2 Tablespoons of the Pumpkin to start and 2 T every 12 hours ...I would not use more than 4 Tablespoons in a 24 hour period.

My 2 boys were feral and had been fixed but living on bird seed when I found them at about 6-8 months.. needless to say, what went in, came  out.
So that is when I was first introduced to PUMPKIN by a local feral cat group.. it worked.

My surviving boy is now 13+ and he and his sister * one of the 2 girls I adopted also feral * and  I lost one girl a couple of years ago to some unknown ailment.
Vet did not know what it was, so made the decision to let her go.. she was constantly dehydrated.

Anyway since my girl is over weight since surgery to save her life and her brother a bit over weight but losing more in the summer... they were in starvation

mode and they will eat and eat and eat till they vomit and then eat again... so taking  their food away and putting them on a schedule does not seem to be

the thing to do in their cases, I promised them when I got them, they would never have to go hungry again..

They are content to sleep and eat and walk about the back yard ( its fenced ) but I wish there was a way to make her lose weight.  I have watched her and she nibbles and

leaves, comes back nibbles and goes out etc she is not eating that much but I think its lack of exercise.. she doesn't like to run and play.. she will run in and jump up on my lap

and cry when she wants to be loved.. and she lays down on her table I feed her on and waits for her meals, but only licks the juices and a few bites and off she goes again.

I had to put the boys on OS by Royal Canin of Canada for Sturvite  Crystals and all the cats ate it.. I do not understand when they make a RX food why don't they make it healthy too?
This is just empty calories, and they don't like the Lite Version.  This has been their mainstay for eating since 2001 and 2009 .... the food works but its loaded with sugar and carbs.

Didn't mean to get into this was just updating my info on the PUMPKIN as I had the wrong measurement down...

I had to use the vets food because my babies had diarrhea. I believe this particular one ID/Science Diet had more fiber in it to help bulk up the stool. As I said before, Merrick and Canada seem to be excellent foods, and can be purchased in the canned as well.

That is what the PUMPKIN is for, it stops the diarrhea and that stopped the problem.  Cat food often will not do that also

if they have the constipation, it will stop that as well.

Hope this helps.  I have used it on my cats as needed for years.  The last time I used it, I thought I would let my boy taste is and he licked it up off his dish, he loved it and I did not have to syringe it into his mouth.

My cat had loose smelly stools when I got him at 6 months old and after help on this forum, I had him tested for TF - turns out he had that PLUS giardia which is similar.

After treatment of metronidazole and ronidazole he cleared up and has since been retested (pcr) and has been given the all clear.

This was about 3 months ago and since then his tummy has been loads better however not completely normal. His poops always end soft and as a result he is left with mess on his bum (and he also sometimes treads in it) which the gets transferred on my carpet etc :(

He also cannot seem to tolerate any dry food whatsover, i have tried grain free, 'sensitive tummy ' and single protein hypoallergenic dry foods but even a couple of teaspoons always give him the runs!!

Its so confusing. He has 2 meals a day of animonda carny and im considering trying some other grain free wet foods too.

Whats more peculiar is 1 week ago I bought home a new kitten and I also have temporarily put him on cheap supermarket pouches as my fridge has broken, and since then his stools have been really firm, almost too firm, and i have no idea why. Theyve been getting on really well and he shows no signs of stress but can this cause 'constapation' ?!
If not then why would switching from high quality, high meat content food to cheap, poorer quality food improve his stools?! I think only time will tell which one has affected him.

In a nutshell, poo problems in cats are a major pain in the backside lol.

Several things could have happened. One the introduction of a new kitty can cause stress which is indicated by loose stools, or two your baby could also have Giardia or TF or both or it's possible your baby could have worms. Also switching your other cat's food around can cause them to experience upset stomachs as well. Have you received an all clear on the kitten? And have you received an all clear on the older cat? If so you might try giving a quality cat food designed for a sensitive tummy and including probiotics.

I have a male that has had problems for a long time, tried all kinds of things. Now have him on dry for sensitive stomach and raw chicken necks & gizzards and a small can of meat NO gravy solid pack beef. I sprinkle a spoonful of Diar-eze over his food and it has worked for him. I buy the 3 10oz jars. Since I breed Highlander Cats and he is one of my males I want him in the best condition possible. He does well on it and you can sprinkle it right over the food he eats it with no problems. Must be good since one of my Great Pyrenees males got a whole can took it to the woods and ate the whole darn thing, did hurt him a bit, he also ate a whole bag of organic plant food :(

BTW I have done the pumpkin and all the other natural plus the Flaygel etc.

I got a kitten about a month ago and I asked the previous owner what she was being fed. She was being fed  Friskies dry food mixed with wet food. I continued to do the same and I noticed that when she ate, she would immediately run to poop and the poop was very soft. This continued on for about two weeks, she still displayed her playful behavior, but I couldn't understand why she was having loose poop. Well I did some research on Friskies dry food and discovered how horrible it is. So I decided to cook my cat her food, mixed with the sheba wet food. I tell you no lie. The following day, her poop was back to normal, it was a healthy poop. So from now on I will be cooking my cat's food. We haven't had anymore messes, leaky butt and loose poop.

Hi @fudgette. I'm glad you've seen improvement in your kitten's stools. If you are preparing homemade cooked food for your cat and it makes up a considerable portion of her diet (over 15%), please ensure it is properly supplemented and balanced. Otherwise, you run the risk of nutritional deficiencies and health risks, especially for a kitten. Please visit our Home-Cooked Cat Food Resources page for more information. You're welcome and encouraged to start a new thread in the Raw & Home-Cooked Cat Food forum if you have questions.

I want to say a big THANK YOU to all the people out there who suggested pumpkin to help loose stools!  When we first took in Foxy she'd been living in the wild on her own and I attributed her loose stools to poor and haphazard diet.  Then after she saw the vet and got all those shots and other meds and was totally stressed out I thought that was the problem.  But eventually I came to realize that she just had stools that looked like a dollop of butterscotch pudding in color and consistency and I knew I should be seeing brown logs.

So after reading through The Cat Site and seeing all the suggestions and results for pure pumpkin in a can I just had to try it.  And lo and behold it WORKED!!  Foxy is now 85% of the way there - definite rope-like, log type form and browning up nicely.
