allergic to ointment for ear infections?

My cat has a very mild ear infection. The vet gave me animax ointment to treat it with.

I've used the ointment once and checked his ears again yesterday. They turned bright red right where I applied the ointment. You can see the line between the skin that did and did not get ointment.

Is this an allergy to the medication?

Animax is a great medicine, it has various ingredients but i don't know the answer to your question.  I would call your vet and discuss over the phone,
