I’ve always loved LOtR. In high school we watched all the movies in one day kind of like a progressive dinner where each movie was at a new house. We all dressed up like characters and tried to make themed food. It was a lot of fun and we almost made it but the final movie was after midnight.
I prefer the books but I think the movies did a great job. It’s a hard adaptation to make and their attention to detail was fantastic. My favorite character is Faramir, and while I really didn’t like his treatment in the movies (they changed his character a little bit), I listened to the commentary and the reasoning made sense. (Basically in the books he is a little tempted by the ring but ends up helping Frodo immediately. In the movies the producers were worried that Faramir being less tempted undermined the corruptibility of the ring).
