Actual experience with belly bands working?

We have a cat whose health issues have meant that he leaks more or less wherever he goes. He is on medication that has brought his personality back (he's clearly so much less uncomfortable than he was), but he still leaks. The vet suggested we consider using diapers. When I started researching it, I found all the sites reviewing diapers mention belly bands, but they don't review or recommend any brands, like they do with diapers. I couldn't find any details, but I thought a belly band was worth trying before going for diapers, since he could use the box for pooping whenever he wants without the diaper being in the way.

We just tried it, and it did not stop the leaking. Examining the band after removing it, it appeared to have collected exactly no urine.

I would just like to know if anyone has actually tried the belly bands and whether they had any success. People say the anatomy isn't right, but still they are suggested all over the place.

Hi and welcome to TCS! I don't think I have ever found an actual belly band made for cats, and despite the fact that I have suggested trying the dog version in an extra small for cats, I have come to realize that it is not likely to work. Here is the only type that seems to be made for cats that is supposed to still allow them to use the litter box for pooping while wearing it.
Cat Diaper Pull-ups Allow for Defecating in Litterbox (barkertime.com)

Cats don't have their penises on their bellies like dogs, so a belly band won't work. Use dog diapers made for female dogs instead.

There are some more specific brands too, including some with a harness in case he takes the diapers off. This is one I found with a quick search, looks pretty good: Premium Cat Diaper Overall - Barkertime

Edit: oops, same brand FeebysOwner FeebysOwner mentioned, but it was the harness I was thinking of.

Thanks to you both. The one FeebysOwner FeebysOwner linked was what I had next on my list. I will give those a shot. I fear they will be very hard to get on him, but not as hard as the overall. cross your fingers for us!

Anatomically, it can’t work. Sorry. They do make diapers for cats. Can be combined with a cat onesie.
