Hi everyone,

My cat Jiggy developed an abscess on the base of her tail after being bitten in our backyard by a neighbourhood cat.

I didn't notice she was in any discomfort until after the abscess formed but I took her straight to the vet 2 days ago. They removed as much gunk as they could and told me to give her antibiotics to heal the abscess and painkillers for relief.

I have a few questions.. Will the abscess rupture on its own still? And how long will it take for the abscess to go away?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi! I'm not clear, you said the vet removed gunk so I'm assuming they drained the abcess, but then did the abscess reform/fill up again? You will want to talk to them again about that.

Usually when they drain the abscess, it clears up with the antibiotics. If it's reformed, then you need to call the vet.
