I haven't had a chance yet to try this out, but from what I read it really is terrific.

It can identify up to 8,500 species. You can also snap photos and ID them that way. It even has pre-recorded snippets of birds chirping.

O it’s fantastic! You will love it. You can also record birdsongs you hear, rather like Shazam, and it will generally ID your bird….a project that took them many years to complete.

I finally tried out the app—heard a bird outside but couldn’t see it so I held up my phone, and got an ID! Pretty cool.

SO exciting! And I think it can actually help “official” ornithologists everywhere, by keeping tabs on sightings! Beautiful bird…are you able to see an indigo bunting or rose breasted grosbeak? Those are life list keepers, for sure.

I can barely tell a hummingbird from a hawk but now that I've IDed my very first bird from the app I'll be paying a lot more attention to what kinds of birds we have around here.
