It’s probably from the change in food. Stay away from any fish flavors. His system may just need time to adjust, but a vet check is always a good idea!

Yes yes, I have him only on chicken at the moment!

What amount is ”normal” for unusual stool due to a diet change? As in, how long do they usually take to adjust give or take?

I would say anywhere from a few days to a week.

Their little innards aren't so robust as those of a grown cat. Ease them into food changes gradually as Sarthur2 said. Eventually, he'll be able to accommodate different foods easier as his gut flora get stronger and more varied.
