I got my cat neutered today. He had excellent litterbox manners prior to being neutered. I wanted to neuter him to prevent him from spraying when he got older. He has never had an accident outside of his litterbox. When my son picked him up from the vet today (I had to work) the tech made a comment, "He's been making stinkys in his kennel" and he asked her what she meant and she said he was spraying. I asked my son if he told her this has never been an issue before and he said he did not (he's 24...so he doesn't really know what questions to ask).

So...I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Does it go away? Or did I just neuter my cat, causing him to start spraying?!

It could well be stress.
How old is he?

I agree with the above posts, it could well be to do with the stress of being in a strange place with strange smells - and trying to cover up those strange smells with his own.

I wouldn't necessarily take it as a sign that he will spray at home where he is comfortable and relaxed.

Thanks for all the feedback! I kept him in his kennel through the night to keep him from moving around. He is back to his old self and still has excellent litterbox manners thankfully!
