If you have a chance watch this video Videos & Tutorials
This reminds me so much of what your cat is doing. My old kitty who made it to 23 was also doing this same thing - never really figured it out completely - I had to modify her litter box to make it lower in the front because she was having a hard time stepping up and in. She passed a week after her 23rd birthday. I wish I had other answers for you but see if this video mirrors what you're seeing at home.

No food is right for every cat so every food will have some bad reviews. That doesn't mean it will be bad for your cats. Maybe you could get just a few cans of the Pro Plan at Petsmart or somewhere and give it a try.

I could not watch that video without bawling the whole way through.

And I am confused about the ending did it help him in the end?

But yes this looks like what she is experiencing although on a much smaller scale.

I hope she will be okay.

Thank you at least i know what to bring up when we go for blood work in a couple weeks unless it needs to be sooner. I will see how she is after the antiflammetory meds wear off.

I'm sorry, I know, all of Dr. Kris video's send me into the ugly cry in less than 30 seconds. What happened with my old cat was she was completely normal and one day she came to the couch (leather ) and jumped and slid off and she fell a weird way and hit the coffee table. She was never the same after that. I took her for laser therapy, to see the animal specialist for acupuncture - didn't spare any expense. Towards the end, she couldn't get into the litter box even after I cut the opening lower so her litter tray ended up being a boot tray like for winter boots, with litter in it and puppy pads all under and around the sides in case she missed and got the floor. I was also having to take her to the try and help to manually express her bladder - it was a ton of work her last year but I wouldn't trade it for anything - she taught me love and patience and gratitude. Im not sure re the cat in the video - I know that was Dr. Kris cat and it also had Kidney disease - the cat has since passed to the rainbow bridge but when I saw your video, I immediately remembered this one. When I saw it the 1st time, I was like OMG, that's totally what is happening to my cat.
Sending you a big hug! I know how upsetting it is to see our babies not 100%

Im sorry to hear about your cat but glad she got to live out a full long life by the sound of it.

I know what you mean regarding patience and love.

I got these babies with my ex fiance when we lost our baby so to me these are my babies.

Id do anything to make sure they live comfortably and happy.

I sent an email to dr kris and hopefully he responds.

At least i have somewhere to start, so I thank you there.

Im hoping it doesnt get worse for her, as of right now Ive only noticed her getting slightly better.

Will get the food situation worked out first then take her in for blood work, hoping to be able to wait two weeks until next month as im tight for the rest of the month.

Do you guys think it would be unwise to replace their urinary wet food for a more natural all wet food diet?

I found that if i feed the the same amount of the applaws limited ingredient(Its just chicken broth and rice) that it would still cost me cheaper than the hills science diet urinary food.

Maybe if i just do that wet food with water it should be okay?

Ive mostly read good things about battling urinary problems with an all wet food diet, even if its not designed for urinary care.

I opened one can of the pro plan food and it looked and smelled like crap, and only had crap ingredients.

Now the science hill didnt necessarily have crappier ingredients it still had mostly crap in it but it definitely looked and smelled 3000% more appetizing.

I think it would be fine. I've said before that you need to feed wet food you can afford. It should be okay, especially if the first ingredient is meat, and grains and by-products are limited.

I just found out that applaws isnt a complete diet food because it doesnt have taurine other than what is naturally in meat however when that meat is cooked some of it goes away so you cant fead them 100% applaws. ill try and find something else and figure this out.

Man I have no idea why I am making this so hard.

Have you thought about posting your food question in our Nutrition forum?

There are lots of very knowledgeable members there who know tons about wet food and what might work for your cats. :)

For most cats, yes, just feeding canned food is enough to keep them from having urinary issues, because of the increased moisture intake. Some cats have a tougher case and really need the prescription food. . .but from what you've said, it doesn't sound like your cats are at that point. So it's mostly down to what you can afford and what your kitties like. Even the best food isn't any good if they won't eat it!

Some independently owned feed stores have a good selection and decent prices. Get a lot of different brands and flavors and see what your kitties like best. Once you figure out their favorites you can look online for better prices. Hopefully you can find what works for you and your kitties without too much fuss.

Thanks sarthur and willowy especially for being patient with me.

I will definitely post in nutrition forum.

I want to feed them food that is not filled with crap and also that will continue to make sure male doesnt have problems urinating. And of course something i can afford.

Not so easy hehe.

No, it's not easy. Like Willowy said, try different foods.

When you post in Nutrition, give your back story about your male, and provide a link to this thread, so folks can read this thread for more particulars.

Keep us updated in this forum too though! :)

These guys are driving me crazy :(

Suddenly the last two dayus right after simbas meds ran out hes not eating as much nor peeing as much but im seeing him pee.

When I first brought him backa nd started on meds he was peeing SOO much to the point where it was more than iwas used to seeing.

Now its back to what it was before ish, so seems like its a lot less.

And he will come up to his food take a few bites then walk away.

Before he would devour the whole plate.

Ill follow him out with the plate and he will eat a few more bites then walk away.

Not sure what is going on with him, stressing me out to the max though.

Is this normal after running out of the meds he was taking?(Bupronex and Prazosin)

Hes acting normal otherwise.

Mostly sleeps, sometimes plays with the roommates cat and sits by window and stuff and likes to be close to me a lot of times.

I just dont get whats going on.

I cant afford to continuously take them to the vet all the time :/

Here are some vids today of him seeming normal being groomed by neighbors cat and playing with her a bit.

The food thing is bothering me though because im so used to him just devouring his food.

He looks good in the videos!

He may not be as hungry off the medicine. As long as he is peeing and not seeming in pain from infection, he should be fine.

Try to worry less!

How's your other kitty doing?

I guess im a worrier at heart.

Any time something out of the ordinary occurs im freaking out -_-

He definitely seems comfortable and i saw he peed yesterday, just hate changes :/

Nala seems to be doing well.

The other day I still saw her limping towards me when i came home from lun ch to check up on them.

But yesterday and today she has seemed fine.

Granted im at work most of the day but nights seem good.

I should know better through this weekend.

I made a nutrition post here:

YAY!!! She is the second one on this page

Q&A

He posted video and this as answere:

Answer:

Zack was able to get through the Ataxia, and lived for years afterward!

I can’t say without having my hands directly on your cat that a neurological issue like ataxia is not part of the issue here.

But what I can say is that your kitty does not look Ataxic to me.

I see bilateral hind end lameness, worse on the left, with epaxial muscle atrophy, perhaps a plantigrade gait occasionally on one of the videos, and altered posture while urinating on another video.

She has conscious control of her limbs, but is purposefully reluctant to use them because she is likely painful.

Just like your girl is showing here, pain often happens without a peep, while they are doing other things normally in their lives. Like, playing, being cute, eating, and all the other normal stuff they do. At any age, no crying, yowling or distress calls.

Assuming everything else was ok with her health, DJD (degenerative joint disease) of her back, hips or knees is what I would be checking her out for at your vet. She looks arthritically flared up, but she's probably been subtle or hiding it for a while.

Good luck at the vets, and if they agree, know there are many great things you can do to improve how she feels. We’ll be talking about arthritic cats a lot this year!
