I have a Momma cat, Patchwork, and 7 4 week old kittens in my care. Last week I noticed that Pemberton, a cute Tuxedo, started having lameness in his hind legs. He pulls them everywhere he goes.
Pemberton
I was sick w Pneumonia and in bed for a week prior to seeing this and had a couple of people coming by to feed all of the cats in my care. (I have a TNR Organization and Rescue so I have 17 at my house currently) My first thought was possible spinal cord injury, maybe someone had accidentally stepped on him and did not tell me or realize it? As he seemed fine before I got ill.
Noone else is presenting w any signs of sickness, so rules out Calici.
I was able to get him in with my local Vet the following day. She diagnosed as a birth defect of the hindlimbs. He walks on the heels of his hindlimbs instead of pawpads she said. We opted not to do an Xray with this diagnosis, although I'm wishing we would have in hindsight.
He exhibits no signs of being in pain, is eating well, urinating and defecating with no issues, etc.
He will be going to another Rescue soon, as they are more equipped to deal with the PT he will need and have resources to get him to a specialist 3 hours away.
Is their anything I can do in the meantime and do you guys think a Xray is important to have asap? He's such an adorable little guy. Ill upload a video shortly so that you can see him in action.
Here he is in action.
