I'm sorry this is happening to you and your kitty. There is only one thing I can think of to suggest and it is due to his needing his bladder expressed. Do you have someone who could check on you to be sure you get home every night and are not in an accident and in the hospital? Your kitty won't be able to wait to be found, or for you to come to and call some one. It's a dreadful thought, but one that you need to consider. How we cross over is important.

I agree that getting the consultation, which will cost you possibly under $200 for a discussion alone, is a good move. It will give you peace of mind even if nothing else can be done and you will know that you did all you could. If they want to perform diagnostics, it will be more, but you have the right to question any and all of that regarding how valuable the info might be and whether or not you would act on the information once you got it.

There is a knack to expressing the bladder and bowels but it is not impossible to learn. Sometimes putting the cat's bladder over your knee might even do it.

fionasmom fionasmom is right about the consultation. A specialist can start out with the records from your vet, along with a physical check, and go from there. I actually did this for my ~17 yo cat, Feeby, (not spine/paralysis related) and the specialty group charged me $160 to do the consult/check up. Of course, I did agree to other tests being done due to inadequate/incomplete testing done by the previous vet, but they spent a lot of time looking her over and analyzing the her records before they even began to entertain any additional tests, and they thoroughly explained to me what the other tests might reveal.

aw Cesrenia , I am so sorry to read your posts, and to learn that Jo may not get the happy ending we were hoping for.:frown: You are in a difficult spot , and I am sure you will do all you can for him , and make the best decision in the end , even if it is the hard choice. That is a choice made in love, and those of us who have been there know how hard it is . Thank you for taking all our tips under advisement ,and all are well meaning . the ultimate decision is yours, and it shows how loved Jo is. My kitty, Bella , crossed the rainbow bridge earlier this year. She has battled health issues all her life. She was my sickly kid . everything from life long eye problems, dental problems, bowel issues,. she was sick the day I adopted I her and I never remember a time she was NOT on medication,. for the last 6 years she has been on 3 of them a day. some she hated , and it could be a battle to get them in; she had to be hospitalized 2x for stool impactions. .. I always went the extra mile , she deserved it and more. Loved her to the moon and back . One day she became paralyzed ..hind leg; rushed to vet .. saddle thrombus. she was shrieking in pain and even BIT me when I picked her up to put her in the pet carrier. when we arrived the vet gave her med to sedate her ( sleeping ) so she was NOT in pain and we could talk and he could exam her She had an "accident " in the carrier ..and was cover in urine/feces ; one leg was OK , the other cold and dead. the clot was lodged. Caused by underlying heart issues I guess. She had been there a few weeks earlier for dis-impaction . I wondered if the trauma of that caused the clot ?? it was brought up that an emergency amputation of affected leg MIGHT work, since only ONE leg was affected. If she survived the surgery ..she could learn to live with 3 legs just fine. ... I actually considered it , for about 5 seconds. .. then I thought .. who am I doing that for ?? her or me ?? hasn't she been through enough ? I could put her through that surgery, suffering and she could die anyway. she has spent her LIFE on meds , dealing with one thing after another. what would LOVE do ?? and then I had my answer. I told the vet. no, she has endured enough. 13 years of vets, meds , problems. Time for her to be free of it. sometimes, we are so busy asking if could do it, we forget to ask if we SHOULD do it.. I pray for you , for peace in your decision ..whatever it is . :heartshape:🙏
