That's so sad to hear about the cats and the children. I really hope that you will inform either the RSPCA or Social Services. I think either one or the other would do. If animal welfare officers see the children are being kept in as bad a condition as the cats are they'll do something about the kids too.

She might not have been breaking any law about breeding, but there are laws that punish people who keep animals in insanitary conditions or otherwise neglect them in the UK.

I'm glad to hear that Poppy is doing so well with you. We'd love to see some more pictures of her.

Your kitten is almost 25 ounces, which is one pound and 9 ounces. Most kittens get first vaccines at 8 weeks and 2 pounds. I would recommend waiting until your kitten hits at least 2 pounds (regardless of age) to receive her first vaccine. Since vaccines can debilitate a kitten for a few days to a week or more, depending on overall health, it might be best to wait another 1-2 weeks until she she is bigger.

It sounds like she is doing great and making good strides though!

I agree with waiting some with the vaccinations. Usually there is some hurry because usually the kitten will soon be adopted out, and its wise to have everything done before the kitten comes to a new home.

But here the kitten IS already at home. So its no hurry either, and good reasons to wait a little extra.
