Hello!
I have a white British Shorthair kitten, born in July 2023, which I got from a breeder in October 2023. Since I brought him home, he has been experiencing excessive tearing, with dark brown or reddish stains forming at the corners of his eyes. This affects both eyes, and while he doesn’t seem to be in discomfort, I have noticed that he occasionally blinks more with one eye (his right eye). The breeder mentioned that this is normal for this breed and recommended simply wiping his eyes daily with a boric acid eye cleanser, a cotton pad and doing it with care to not wound him. However, now that he’s a year old and the issue persists, I’m becoming more concerned. I recently took him to the vet, and they advised continuing with the cleaning and suggested we might do bloodwork later this year when he gets his next vaccine, specifically to check for any infections. In the meantime, I’m hoping to get some advice or recommendations from others who might have experienced this. What could be causing this, and are there any additional steps I should take to ensure his health?
