My cats LOVE this toy!  I have had them for years, and just change out the corrugated cardboard insert.  ( not sure where I got the inserts, because I have had them a couple years now.  This is really their go-to toy.

The turbo Scratcher has been a mainstay in my house for years.  I also have to pick it up from time to time so they can re-discover it, but there's nothing they enjoy more.  You're right about the center toy, it's a goner pretty quickly.  The best thing about it is that you can dust the bottom with catnip and they'll be drawn to it, then the ball-in-channel does the rest.  They definitely use the scratch pad too.  Whoever designed this was a Cat Whisperer Extraordinaire!
