Pros: The character interactions are good, intriguing, and made me burst out laughing several times when reading this.
Cons: A couple parts of the book have descriptions that are a little gruesome, but it works for the parts of the book they're in.
One day the cat Maurice discovered that not only could he  think and talk, but that the rats living on the garbage heap behind the Unseen University (a school of magic) had also gained the ability. As he walks through the streets he sees a stupid-looking (I'm not being mean, that's how the book describes him) boy playing a pipe and a plan forms. Soon he takes his crew of rodents (and one human boy) on a trip swindling--ahem!--helping towns get rid of the plagues of rats.

At their very last job they encounter a real  plague, and it's not what anyone expected...
