Pros: Easy to use , mixes in well with wet food ..
Very affordable and easy to administer ..  My cats do not seem to notice it ..
Pros: Increases overall immune system health, inexpensive, easy to dispense
Cons: Not effective for all kitties
L-Lysine is a must for any herpes kitty, though I give it to all my cats.  Adding Lysine helps with weepy eyes, minor sneezing, and runny nose associated with a herpes flare up. Lysine keeps the herpes virus from replicating in a cat's system and causing a flare up or if a flare up happens, decreasing the intensity of the flare up.  For Lysine  to work effectively, the medication needs to stay in the system as it is passed through elimination, so I administer it twice a day.  For a new kitty, it can take up to 30 days to see any effects and unfortunately, it doesn't work for all kitties.  The powdered variety is so easy to use!  Just 1/4 t = 500 mg, making it easy to measure and dispense.  I add it to my kitty's wet food in the morning and evening.  The powder dissolves easily in water, so I add a bit of water to my cat's wet food and it dissolves easily. It's also odorless, so the kitties don't even know it's there and they take it with no fuss.  You can also add it to a water dish, but I've not personally tried that.  I can buy it locally, but it's expensive, so I try to find it through an online source to save money.

I just restarted using this about 2 weeks ago on my 13.5 year old FHV cats. I tried L-lysine a long time back (10 years ago) and found it didn't help. Back then, there was no set amount to give, how often, or how long; so I gave 250 mg once a day for a couple of months. I stopped when I didn't see any improvement though. Now, with all the years of research done, I'm trying again at twice the previous dose and adding into every wet meal, which is 2-3 times a day. I'm hoping this time I'll see some improvements.

I think if you look around online, you can find pretty good pricing on the large 1 pound bottle. I bought it locally at Natural Grocers Vitamin Cottage for $16.45.
