General Information

When James Bowen found an injured, ginger street cat curled up in the hallway of his sheltered accommodation, he had no idea just how much his life was about to change. James was living hand to mouth on the streets of London and the last thing he needed was a pet. Yet James couldn't resist helping the strikingly intelligent tom cat, whom he quickly christened Bob. He slowly nursed Bob back to health and then sent the cat on his way, imagining he would never see him again. But Bob had other ideas. Soon the two were inseparable and their diverse, comic and occasionally dangerous adventures would transform both their lives, slowly healing the scars of each other's troubled pasts. A Street Cat Named Bob is a moving and uplifting story that will touch the heart of anyone who reads it.

Pros: Uplifting; easy read; a true story
Cons: Books originate from London, so new books in the series take a while to get here
A Street Cat Named Bob: And How He Saved My Life is a life affirming, true story of how a stray cat turned around down-and-out street musician James Bowen's life. When the book opens James is just barely creeping by in life, living in special housing due to his low earnings and drug addiction. He takes a stray cat in and everything changes.

This book was a bestseller in England (where it was originally published) and (I think) in the U.S. I read it and then passed it along to my friend's mother, who loved it and read it in three days. The only bad thing is that since the books are published in England. There's a other related books, and if you're waiting for the latest book to come out, it can take a while for hard copies to become available in the U.S. You can get it on Kindle faster.
