Comment by 'rickr' in article 'Should I Give My Cat Probiotics?'

I started Lucy on probiotics after a round of antibiotics to treat a UTI.  We use PetJoy Naturals water based probiotics.  Three sprays on her wet food.  It's a simple, no fuss approach.  She doesn't seem to mind the addition to her food.

Comment by 'rickr' in article 'How To Deal With Cat "love Bites"?'

Archie just licks; he never bites.  But Lucy give love bites all the time. Sometimes she will pull a finger into her mouth and gently nibble (probably because I weaned her from the bottle too early).  I find the behavior endearing.  It's one of her most precious traits.

Comment by 'rickr' in article 'How To Shoot A Beautiful Portrait - Cat Photography 101: Part 2'

@foxxycat, Of course all cats are different with unique personalities.  In my experience though, most cats enjoy sitting on a soft perch by a window.  Try leaving the perch (or draped chair) out and letting your cat discover it on his own.  I've used this technique to photograph many cats in...

Thank you for the kind words.  Yes, draping is a wonderful technique. It's simple, effective and only takes a moment to implement.  Sometimes it helps to use fabric that your cat is attracted to.  Archie and Lucy are fond of soft fabrics, like fleece.

Comment by 'rickr' in article 'Metacam For Cats: The Pros And Cons Of Meloxicam For Pain Relief'

Quick follow-up.  I spoke to my vet.  She said that most of the issues with Metacam date from the release of the drug and were related to improper dosing - especially on older cats.  She assured me that as long as I stay at the recommended dose the risk is minimal. I feel better now.

Comment by 'rickr' in article 'Metacam For Cats: The Pros And Cons Of Meloxicam For Pain Relief'

Thanks for the clarification.  The article is well balanced - it wasn't scary.  I just worry about my cats, especially when one of them is out of sorts.  I will talk to my vet.  I trust her.  She is generally conservative about treatments and medications.  I am surprized, though,  that she...

Comment by 'rickr' in article 'Metacam For Cats: The Pros And Cons Of Meloxicam For Pain Relief'

Gosh.  What a timely and somewhat scary article.  My cat only vet recently prescribed oral Metacam for my tabby Archie,  He is receiving physical therapy for some spinal issues.  Metacam was recommended to help control the inflamation.  I didn't think much about it.  Since Metacam is not a...

Comment by 'rickr' in article 'Cat Grass: How To Create The Purrfect Garden For Your Cat'

Archie loves grass - he grew up outdoors.  I think he's addicted.  I grow it from seeds when the weather is warm.  But in the winter months, I have to pay the outrageous store prices since I can't seem to get the seeds started while it's cold. I've tried growing it indoors, but no luck.    ...
