Treating IBD in cat with heart condition who's allergic to poultry, already on raw, and has eaten the usual recommended novel proteins for years?

Thanks for this. I've gotten Koha in the past and was pretty happy with the food. I didn't even know they had kangaroo since it's not listed on the company's site. I'm sorry you're going through this too. It's been hard for me because he doesn't exhibit usual IBD symptoms like diarrhea, so...

Treating IBD in cat with heart condition who's allergic to poultry, already on raw, and has eaten the usual recommended novel proteins for years?

Thanks for your reply! My cat was on Cerenia for a little bit but he wouldn't eat on it. He does better on ondansetron, and he has to have it every 12 hours otherwise he won't eat. He can't eat duck because he's allergic to it, and he's been on rabbit for the past seven years or so, and he's...

Treating IBD in cat with heart condition who's allergic to poultry, already on raw, and has eaten the usual recommended novel proteins for years?

I've already read through the two awesome resources that are frequently posted here in regards to treating IBD, but the gist of them are basically get your cat on a raw food with a novel protein. The problem is that my cat is allergic to poultry and has eaten things like rabbit, venison, and...

    IBD/GI lymphoma vomiting

My cat has either IBD or lymphoma and has the same thickening of intestinal walls. He's recently been diagnosed with heart disease, so a biopsy is out of the picture for him. Until he suddenly lost his appetite a couple of months ago, his one and only symptom for about a year and a half was...

Low appetite cat for about 2 weeks, however with normal blood tests and x-rays

Thanks, I did see it! I'm glad that you were finally able to figure out what was wrong and that your cat is feeling better already!!

Low appetite cat for about 2 weeks, however with normal blood tests and x-rays

My cat has been going through almost the exact same thing! We did find out he has an enlarged heart (heart disease) through a blood test (Cardiopet proBNP) and an ultrasound, but we're still trying to figure out his GI issues. He exhibited similar symptoms: loss of appetite and subsequent weight...

Is it possible for a cat to have parasites without diarrhea? Do parasites always show up on a fecal test?

Just got blood work done, and my cat's protein is low. He seems to have lost some muscle mass over the past six months. I'm waiting on my vet to get back to me with next steps. She thinks it might be liver or gastro related. However, based on my googling, it seems like parasites might also be an...

About to lose my mind with Cat food....

My cat didn't have a UTI or blockage, but he had some crystals and like a trace amount of blood in his urine on his urine analysis last year. My vet didn't tell me to change his (wet food, 80% raw, 20% canned) diet at all. She just had me add a DL-methionine supplement to one meal. I used...

Cat licks belly almost raw, may have allergy to chicken

My cat is allergic to chicken (and turkey and duck), and he would lick raw spots on his front legs. As soon as I put him on an elimination diet, he stopped licking the spots and they healed right up. I wonder if perhaps your cat is also allergic to other things besides chicken as well? I had to...

CBD Oil and Going Under Anesthesia

Yes, the procedure went great! They didn't find any issues with his teeth once all the tarter was cleaned off, and he was much, much less loopy after he got home than he had been the previous time he underwent anesthesia. Whatever medicine my new vet used worked so much better for him than what...

CBD Oil and Going Under Anesthesia

I just wanted to give an update in case anyone else has to go through this specific situation since I had a difficult time finding any answers. I tapered his CBD oil down over a couple of days before taking him off of it completely. He was off it for a total of 10 days before his surgery. He had...

    Throwing up once a night between 3AM - 6AM

Just an update in case anyone else stumbles across this while looking for answers. I got him a timed feeder and have been giving him 15-20 pieces of dry food between 1:00-2:00AM. It's been 9 nights so far, and he's only thrown up once, and that was when the feeder didn't open until almost 3AM...

    Throwing up once a night between 3AM - 6AM

I do wonder if excess fur in his stomach is making things worse since the hairball supplement I gave him at the beginning really did help. He is very particular about his grooming, so I feel like he swallows a lot more fur than an average cat. His timed feeder came today, so I'll see if that...

Oh this is perfect. Cheaper than the wheel ones, too. Thanks!!

    Throwing up once a night between 3AM - 6AM

This makes me feel better. I know long-term use of PPIs in humans is not great, and I figured it would be the same in cats and I really didn't want to go that route. It definitely sounds like I need to get a timed feeder to try it out and see if it helps. Thanks!

    Throwing up once a night between 3AM - 6AM

That's a good idea I might have to try. He gets Orijen dry food as his "treats," and I feel like that one's at least on the less evil side of things haha. When I looked into timed feeders before I was like oh, but I wouldn't want wet food sitting in there for so long. Didn't even cross my mind...

    Throwing up once a night between 3AM - 6AM

To preface, I do have a vet appointment lined up, but I wanted to see if anyone else had experience with this instead of going into the appointment blind. My 10(ish)-year-old cat has been throwing up almost every night in the early hours of the morning. He does have some history with this...

CBD Oil and Going Under Anesthesia

Does anyone have any experience with their cat being on CBD oil and then undergoing anesthesia? My 9(ish)-year-old tabby has been on PetReleaf's CBD oil for about 4 years now. He takes 0.5ml/day for what my previous vet called "localized seizures." He needs his teeth cleaned, and my new vet...

Just need a little support. Cat sick for first time in the 8 years I've had him.

That's good to know about lysine! I'll keep it in mind going forward, and I'll probably start giving it to him daily if he does end up getting sick like this again. He was in a shelter for at least three months before I got him, so it wouldn't surprise me if he picked it up there. And yes, my...
