    Chronic Inappropriate Elimination Issues

I just wanted to update this thread - I know it's been a long time, but we started Ted on medication. You can read about that journey here: Does Anyone Have Experience Treating Their Anxious Cat With Buspar/buspirone? Unfortunately it wasn't successful. Ted started peeing again :( It seems as...

Does Anyone Have Experience Treating Their Anxious Cat With Buspar/buspirone?

Another update for anyone following this post or who might find it in the future - unfortunately it's not good news. Ted started peeing again :( It seems as though the medication worked temporarily and then stopped, maybe he built up a tolerance to it. He got a UTI shortly after he resumed the...

Does Anyone Have Experience Treating Their Anxious Cat With Buspar/buspirone?

Just wanted to post a quick update. Ted has dropped down to one pill a day and he hasn't slipped up again. We've found a happy compromise where he's allowed to sleep with us but he's not given unsupervised access to our bedroom. This has been successful so far! We're going to keep him on the...

Does Anyone Have Experience Treating Their Anxious Cat With Buspar/buspirone?

Glad to hear it seems to be working for you!! Unfortunately Teddy peed on the bed a few days after we started keeping the door open. The bed was protected at least but it's discouraging :( We haven't given up hope, we're going to keep him on the full dose for another month and try again. If he...

Any Recommendations For The Best Diet For An Asthmatic Cat?

Thank you so much everyone for your thoughtful replies!! I really appreciate it. I'll definitely be looking into the Dr. Elsey's brand of cat litter that's been recommended, I've never heard of it and it's worth a shot. The diet recommendations have been great too and I'm going to experiment...

Any Recommendations For The Best Diet For An Asthmatic Cat?

Hi everyone! My adorable baby girl Tony: has asthma :( It's a mild case of asthma (so far, she's 3.5 years old) and she doesn't yet require drugs. She does have coughing fits that seem to peak twice a year, the changing of the seasons really get to her. I know that asthma in cats is...

Does Anyone Have Experience Treating Their Anxious Cat With Buspar/buspirone?

Glad to hear that RufusGizmo!! I was initially wary of using psych meds on a pet but I feel like I definitely made the right choice for him. As someone who has experienced anxiety myself I know how terrible it feels and I hope that both of our kitties are feeling much better now :)

Does Anyone Have Experience Treating Their Anxious Cat With Buspar/buspirone?

Another update! Teddy has been on buspirone for about seven weeks now. He had a followup appointment with the vet today and I decided to protect our bed and leave the door to our bedroom open for several hours as a test before we spoke to the vet. Great news: he didn't pee!! In the past he...

Foster Cat Had Her Kittens This Am!

Oh no, so sorry to hear about Sesame :'( Kittens are so fragile, you did your very best and sometimes it's just not meant to be. I lost a whole litter of kittens once and it was so heartbreaking, I know your pain. Sending good vibes that the rest of the kittens continue to grow healthy and...

    Maine Coon Talking

It's a myth that all maine coons are chatty. I've had multiple maine coons growing up (living in new england, maine coon/maine coon mixes weren't uncommon) and I'd say it's about a 60/40 split between chatty and quiet types. If you want to encourage vocalization, I would try using positive...

Do You Let Your Cat Out?

Growing up in rural New Hampshire my parents always allowed our cats to be in/outdoor and surprise surprise, not many of them lived very long. My first cat Katie was the only one who lived to a nice old age - she made it to 18. The rest of them didn't even make it to 5 most of the time :( As a...

My Family Is Violent Toward My Cat

How old is your cat? Male cats can be spayed at almost any adult age - the only time a vet would refuse to do this is if the anesthesia may pose a health risk. He would have to be very old or really ill in that case. If you absolutely can't spay him there's really not much you can do in terms of...

My Family Is Violent Toward My Cat

That sounds like sexual behavior so that's a relief at least! Do you know who the female cat in heat belongs to? Is it possible for you to get in touch with that person and ask them to keep their cat inside until the heat is over?

My Family Is Violent Toward My Cat

Is he spraying, like backing up against a wall and marking it, or is he squatting and peeing? Does he pick specific spots to pee or is he going wherever? If he's squatting and peeing small amounts, especially if it's on a soft surface, or if he seems to be straining to pee it could be a medical...

    Crying Cat

This very well could be her first heat, six month old kittens are old enough. The symptoms you're mentioning are classic symptoms of heat as well. Check out this article for more symptoms to look out for.

Does Anyone Have Experience Treating Their Anxious Cat With Buspar/buspirone?

I definitely plan on giving it at least eight weeks before making a decision. Just have to stick with it and be patient :) I'll post another update in a few weeks!

Does Anyone Have Experience Treating Their Anxious Cat With Buspar/buspirone?

Just wanted to post an update. We're three weeks in to the treatment and so far there hasn't been any noticeable effect on his behavior. I haven't lost hope because it can take up to six weeks to have any effect at all so we'll see. I have noticed that sometimes after his evening pill his...

    Dandruff!....

Yes, snoring can be a symptom of respiratory/allergy issues. Coughing and wheezing are the main symptoms of asthma but my cat with asthma also snores regularly. Snoring can also be a symptom of an esophageal issue.
