    Opinions please...

This beautiful little girl is a foster that I've had for three days. I have her and her two brothers, they're about five weeks old. I can't quite decide what to call her coloring. She's kind of a mix of tortie/tabby/calico. Her colors are more distinct on her face, mottled on her body and she...

    Freeze Dried Pumpkin

I think most cat and dog parents know about using pumpkin puree to help with diarrhea symptoms, but last year I discovered freeze-dried pumpkin and I found when using for smaller guys like kittens, it's much more convenient than pumpkin puree. I always hated opening an entire can of pumpkin when...

    Lime Sulfur Odor Neutralizer?

I'm not quite sure what category this should go under, but I'm looking for any proven solutions to get lime sulfur odor out of laundry. I'm treating several foster kittens for ringworm and even after washing, the odor lingers in the towels I use to soak up the excess solution. Baking soda and...

    Describe this cat?

Our rescue just got a mother cat with four 2-week old kittens. The lighting in these photos isn't great, but mom is cream with black/brown markings. She has tortie-type markings on part of her face, her ears and her legs, just cream/black/brown, no orange. Not quite sure what to call her. Tortie...

    Challenges with deaf kittens?

The rescue I work with just got a litter of four kittens. All are male, three are white, one is a gray/white tabby. It appears the three white boys are deaf. I don't have any personal experience with deaf cats and I'm sending the entire litter to a foster home that is new to our program. Does...

    Coloring of this kitten?

I work with a rescue and recently trapped a litter of kittens that were living under a concrete porch. There's an orange/white tabby, a calico, and a third guy. I'm not quite sure what to call the third guy's coloring. He's lighter than what I would consider buff, but darker than cream, and he...

    Mystery illness

I have a friend of a friend whose cat is having some health issues that her vet hasn't been able to diagnose yet. Below is a message she sent to my friend. The tilting back of the head is unusual, has anyone out there experienced something like this? "I am worried Gryphon isn't going to be ok. ...

    Cleaning kitten bottles

Anyone found something better than the little bottle brushes that come with nursing kits for cleaning kitten bottles? I find those to be pretty useless as they're so stiff, all they really do is kind of scratch around the inside of the bottle. Kitten formula has a decent amount of fat in it and...

Kitten's ears curl just slightly at the very tips

I just got a foster litter of four kittens. I noticed with two of the kittens, their ears curl down just a tiny bit at the very tips. Is this a trait of any specific breed? I was told the mother is a lilac point Siamese mix. The first two kittens have the curled ears, the other two do not.

    What to call this coloring?

This is one of my latest fosters. We're not quite sure what to call her coloring. She's a mix of soft brown, gold and cream, more muted than a dilute tortie, but I'm not sure you'd call her a tabby either. Thoughts?

Kitty with diarrhea and other issues...

I have a foster kitty that I'm struggling with. He's been with our rescue organization since he was born, he was actually born at one of our foster homes. When he was around 2 months old, he had a severe seizure attack. After spending a night at the ER, and numerous trips to the vet, the...

    Unusual kitten

My friend, who also fosters, recently got a litter of kittens with their mother. The mother is a tortie, two of the kittens are DMH black, one is DMH gray, and then there's this unusual little guy: He has a very light layer of hair, and also appears to have a fever coat. The vet doesn't seem...

Tips to introduce an orphaned kitten to a mother with an existing litter? (not newborn)

Hi folks - I'm the foster coordinator with a small local rescue organization. One of our former fosters called me Friday about a person asking them to take a kitten they found. The circumstances are a little strange, the girl that found the kitten said she found the kitten alone in her parent's...

    Your favorite weaning food?

I'm currently fostering a litter of nine kittens along with their mother. I've been supplemental feeding them with a bottle and now they are 5 weeks old and should be eating solid food. My usual dry food for weaning is Royal Canin Mother and Baby Cat, but so far only one has shown any interest...

    Mother cat with 9 kittens?

I've taken over fostering duties for a mother cat with a litter of 9 kittens. We've been keeping a close eye on their weights and they all are gaining weight well and seem to be nice and healthy and active. My concern is, as they get bigger, it's going to be that much harder for everyone to...

What would you call this guy's coloring?

This is a little guy I'm currently fostering: He was abandoned by his mother, when she relocated the rest of his litter and left him behind, so I have no idea what his mother or his siblings look like. I think he's very striking, and though he's not quite 4-weeks old, he's already been...

Kitten with tiny worms in ears?

I got a couple new fosters today, a couple of female kittens around 10 weeks old. The area they came from is notorious for producing kittens with worms, fleas, ear mites and whatever else you can think of.  I was expecting them to have ear mites, which I'm familiar with and know what the residue...

    Stillborn kitten :(

My most recent foster cat, Meadow, gave birth to her litter starting just before midnight last night. The first four kittens were born without any assistance needed from me, aside from trimming down some excessively long umbilical cords. The last kitten, sadly, was stillborn. I know he had been...

Male cat - dandruff, losing hair above tail, seems painful to the touch.

I was at the shelter for the organization I foster for, and one of the residents, Franklin, has recently been developing a lot of dandruff and losing hair just above his tail. It also seems to be painful because he will growl if you pet or brush him in that area. He's been at the shelter since...

stove pellet litter safe for kittens?

This is a question that folks that work with rescue groups can probably help me with. I know from my past experience litter box training little kittens that they start off eating both regular clay and clumping cat litter. With my last batch of kittens I started them with Blue Buffalo pellet...
