Switching foods for an IBD cat

The aftermath was the expensive part. Fox was hospitalized for three days (given serial enemas, golytly, a host of different meds, X-rays, etc.), visited his regular vet four times for X-rays, enemas, and meds, and saw another emergency vet twice for x-rays, enemas, and meds. Part of the expense...

Switching foods for an IBD cat

Thank you! I’ve requested to join “raw feeding for IBD cats.” My kitty stopped vomiting every other day once he was back on raw food - which, at the time, I thought was a miracle - but he couldn’t handle the bone-in (he’s now severely constipated). I’d like to get him back on raw, but I don’t...

Switching foods for an IBD cat

I have a kitty with possible IBD (I think he’s had it for many years now) and chronic constipation as of late in large part due to feeding bone-in raw rabbit and chicken. I’m struggling to find a commercial wet food he’ll eat at all, so in my book, if your kitty is eating with the prednisone...

    Confused..

Looks like an abscess that's ruptured. She probably got bit by another cat, the bite got infected, the abscess filled with pus, and for whatever reason it ruptured just now. You'll need to flush it daily with disinfectant solution prescribed by your vet and you may want to do a round of...

Help!: Diet food and exercise options

Hey bloggers! I have an update on my food search. Decided not to use Fancy Feast after finding out about this: After US lawsuit linked to cat food, Nestle says forced labor has no place in its supply chain I've been feeding less of the dry food and that's helping with weight, but haven't made...

Help!: Diet food and exercise options

Thanks for the ideas! I'll try the fancy feast and see how that goes. I've considered going back to homemade raw, but it is such an incredible pain to shop for all the necessary ingredients in the city and to keep them all frozen while I do it. Ordering off-line is possible, but pricey, so I'd...

Help!: Diet food and exercise options

Hi all, My cat Fox is a super trooper - traveling the country with me, living in new places every year or so. We recently (within the year) moved to Washington, D.C. and Fox has gained quite a bit of weight (~3 pounds, so he's up to 16 or 17) and seems to be pretty bored. For years I fed him...

    Making a meal... pictures

So I made a spreadsheet of HT and MPC prices.  Looks like MPC is cheaper per unit, is more expensive for shipping, and has a smaller selection.  BUT, I'm originally from Michigan and have plans to visit my family over Thanksgiving.  MPC is based in Michigan and has a delivery service - for $10...

Struggling with the financial decision to switch to raw

aprilprey - I'm in this (school-imposed) transient period of my life, so I've been pricing frankenprey online.  I've looked into hare-today.com, but I don't really have a gauge for what is considered expensive when it comes to ground rabbit  .  I have looked at mypetcarnivore.com and they look...

    Making a meal... pictures

SUPER helpful!  I've been researching frankenprey for the past few hours - it looks like a better fit for Fox and me if I can get him to eat it.  The frankenprey also seems to be much cheaper than the catinfo.org recipe. In fact, the way I've got it priced out, it's about the same amount I spend...

Struggling with the financial decision to switch to raw

LDG - Fox weighs between 13 and 14 pounds, but is not heavy.  He's a very long, narrow cat - the vet says he is at an ideal weight now after switching to the wet food diet.  On that note though, while he looks thin and svelte, he has that hanging skin sort of tummy.  Is that something that will...

    Overgrooming: Alternative, therapeutic ideas?

Are you sure the over-grooming is purely stress-related?  My cat started licking his paws incessantly after an allergic reaction.  My vet prescribed prednisone and it helped a lot. Unfortunately, Fox started to lick his paws again a few months after we took him off the steroid... I've since...

Struggling with the financial decision to switch to raw

I switched my 4 year old, neutered tabby from dry food to a timed, wet food diet about 4 months ago in anticipation of starting him on a raw food diet.  Right now, I'm spending about $120 a year on wet food (8.25 ounces per day at $0.48 per 5.5 ounces).  Fox won't touch high-quality wet...

    Playing: Embarrassed? or Reloading?

Funny thing - after Fox makes a big leap for a toy, sometimes he'll take a tumble or land awkwardly (or even land normally sometimes) and run in the other direction to one of his "safe spots".  His "safe spots" are behind a particular chair and under the bed.  Any idea why he does this...

    Home-Made Cat toys

I make little cat nip toys from baby socks. Just fill up a sock with cat nip (either bought or home-grown) and sew up the opening. After the sock gets sufficiently gross ;) from all the licking, just throw it out and make some more!
