Thank you for the responses.  Butters has been playing a small bit today, eating and drinking well and still loving up to everyone around him.  His breathing is okay, not labored but not as relaxed as a regular breathing pattern should be.  I'm hoping we can go another day at least without a tap...

I'm really, really sorry about your loss.  Please don't try to blame yourself, I do this everytime I lose an animal so I'm an expert at it.  It doesn't help.  My vet told me one time something that stuck with me and maybe it will help you...I was putting down my baby boy, he had renal failure...

Thank you for your kind words.  I took Butters to the vet this morning because of his cold-like symptoms.  He was runnng a low grade fever and was given a shot of antibiotics as well as sent home with a bottle.  I haven't had the blood work done yet because he has been to the vet to be drained...
