    Home blood testing

Emmett has been doing great with his diabetes. Its been about a year since I started giving him insulin shots.  Only problem now is he is so fat.  OMG he is way too fat.  I'm afraid to weigh him, but he is having trouble getting through his kitty door.  I think its time I switched him to the...

    Home blood testing

I have an update on Emmett's health. I tried to give him just soft food but he was starving to the point he was harassing me a couple of hours later, so I am sticking with his kibble. I took him to the vet last week to get his blood tested and it was 2.6.  Yes I know that is too low, but it...

    Home blood testing

He is really good with the insulin shot.  The vet showed me how to do it and its been pretty easy.  He purrs when I give him it.  I do test myself since I found out I was diabetic back in January.  I did try today.  Rubbed his ear and stuff, he kind of flinched when I poked him, but I couldn't...

    Home blood testing

My little Emmett is diabetic and I am giving him insulin shots twice a day.  I took him to the vet last week and his sugar levels were still high.  The vet increased the insulin amount and told me I could test his blood at home with my meter.  I saw a few videos of how to do it on their ear but...

What dry food for diabetic cats?

I called one place about that EVO food and they told me that it was discontinued in Canada due to recalls and such.  They recommended a brand called Orijin.  From the web site it seems like a great choice for a diabetic kitty.

Substitute for Litter Locker II refills?

That is so awesome!  I just bought the Litter Locker II and really didn't like how expensive the refills are and how they don't last very long.  2 or 3 changes and then it empty.  I was looking for an alternative to the refills and this post gave me exactly that.  Thanks :)

    Hips/Back end

There are a few things going on with Emmett and I know I need to take him to the vet, but I've been putting it off since I don't have a vet close by since I moved. First he has lost fur around his neck.  Its not red, or scabby or itchy.  Its just furless.  Just his skin. Secondly he has been...

    Fur Loss

Thanks!  That link was very helpful.  My little Emmett is having that kind of fur loss around his neck.  Thought it was from his collar at first, but he's still losing fur without the collar on.  I am calling the vet tomorrow to make sure everything is ok.

    snoring

I just found this thread.  I was worried about Emmett's snoring.  When he was younger he didn't snore, now he'll wake me up with it.  Even if he is just sitting around he has this purr/snore thing he does.  He also purrs a lot more then he used to.  Is that strange?

    Water Drinking Issues

The glass seems to be working best, might just get rid of the fountain and keep a glass out for him....such a weirdo.  I found this site that was interesting on the subject. http://www.catster.com/lifestyle/cats-drink-more-water-health

    Water Drinking Issues

I put a glass of water down and he was drinking from that, but now he wants the tap again.

    Water Drinking Issues

Little Emmett was fine drinking out of his fountain.  Since I let him drink from the tap he only wants to drink there.  I'm worried he isn't drinking enough now.  How can I get him to drink from his fountain again and not the tap? Thanks.

Poll: Do your cats wear collars?

Em has been wearing a collar since he's been a kitten.  I don't want to risk him getting out and being lost.  The breakaways are great. I've found it hooked on things every now and again.

    Indoor to Outdoor

That is a horrific story. Its too bad there are people like that out there. I did come to this site for some insight to the idea.

    Indoor to Outdoor

First, I'd like to thank everyone for the advice. I did take everything that was written into consideration when making my decision. But... A 2 year old child and a 7 year old cat are very different things. At about 10 weeks a cat is able to survive without it's mother. A 2 year old can't...

    Indoor to Outdoor

I am thinking of letting my indoor cat of 7 years have some time outside on his own. Is there any steps I should take when doing this?

    Vet Questions

I haven't taken Emmett to the vet in about 3 or 4 years. I have an appointment booked for Thursday for a check up. What should I make sure the vet checks?
