What Bug Is This? (possible Explanation For "allergy")

The vet called and said it's a flea, despite it not jumping. I'll have to spray the house and restart the deworming treatment. In 2 weeks time I'll start reducing the medication and hopefully my cat will not restart the scratching.

What Bug Is This? (possible Explanation For "allergy")

Not completely, but he is much better. But if my cat has an allergy to the parasite bite (apparently that is very common), I'd expect the medication to help with the itchy skin, even if the parasite is still present. This is what I think anyway...

What Bug Is This? (possible Explanation For "allergy")

Bayer Advocate for cats over 4kg. One pipette once a month. When the itchy skin started the vet told me to stop immediately - this was 2 months ago.

What Bug Is This? (possible Explanation For "allergy")

I completely agree with this. I've been spending too much money in appointments, and his ONLY concern is to find the minimum dosage of Medrone that reliefs the itchy skin on my cat. - Started with one treatment, no results. - Switched to Medrone (2mg) and it helps. - Switched to Medrone (4mg)...

What Bug Is This? (possible Explanation For "allergy")

They are tiny. They look like a tiny grain of rice, slim, black head and brown thorax. it lacks the long back legs you see in fleas, so it doesn't jump. It appears to have some sort of legs just below its head.

Just did. They look clean and no bugs.

What Bug Is This? (possible Explanation For "allergy")

Spotted another one. I'm worried! These insects are FAST. As soon as I expose one, it moves elsewhere. I see something small and shiny moving along the skin. I don't think it's a tick.

What Bug Is This? (possible Explanation For "allergy")

I posted recently about an allergy, where the Vet says "it could be anything", so my cat has been on steroids for a few months now. Also I stopped all kinds of preventive treatments (deworming, etc), by vet request. Today I spotted this sneaky insect while I was grooming my boy. My cat has a...

My Cat Was Not Born To Be Indoors

Yes. I bought something similar 3 years ago (while I was trying everything to contain him) and built it in the garden. It was half of the size of this one: He would hiss at me and literally attack me when I was carrying him to put him inside the "catio". A few weeks later, I donated it to...

My Cat Was Not Born To Be Indoors

I've always had cats - always one at a time. They were always indoors and I never had problems with it. Until I had my current cat, Lobinho, that is. The first 3 years were hell, with him crying, peeing everywhere, knocking things off and scratching the door and windows to the outside a lot. He...

Cat Is On Steroids - Time For A New Vet?

He freaks out if indoors for 24h. He has always been like this since he was very young. I have always had cats and they were ALL indoors, but this one, he is very temperamental. If I do not open the door for him, we will cause havoc, scratch everything and pee everywhere. If I do open the door...

Cat Is On Steroids - Time For A New Vet?

Sorry my bad. He was initially on 10 mg (no or little effects). He is now on 20 mg. He is better in this dose, but still grooming more (and more aggressively) than he normally would. My plan is: - I just replaced his wet food by "AVA Sensitive Skin and Stomach - hypo-allergenic cat food" - (if...

Cat Is On Steroids - Time For A New Vet?

Oh wow, didn't know that! I'll talk to the vet about that. Honestly, thanks a lot!

Cat Is On Steroids - Time For A New Vet?

My cat got the 1 month shot initially. Did wonders, but the problem eventually started again. Then, he received the 3 day shot (for immediate relief) plus the tablets. Tablets are a way to avoid carrying my cat to the vet once a month - he is very aggressive with vets. First set of pills were...

Cat Is On Steroids - Time For A New Vet?

Quick history, hope it can shed some light. - My cat has been on Orijen (morning) & one Sheba pouch (evening) for years. - About 8 or 9 months ago, my cat developed diarrhoea that wouldn't go away. That was uncomfortable for everyone, especially for him. I spent a lot of money in the vet...

Cat Is On Steroids - Time For A New Vet?

I just returned from a vet appointment. My cat has been scratching and grooming a lot more than normal, and aggressively as well. He's developing scabs throughout is lower back and neck. Finding fresh wounds breaks my heart. Last time (2 weeks ago) the vet suggested it was an allergy saying...

    I... need to ... sleep ... zZzZz

I tried Feliway for 2 months (the diffuser) to try to calm my cat, but to be honest didnt notice any change in his behaviour. This was before I allow him to go out. I tried seveal things to be honest, including a ONE HOUR walk on a lead + harness EVERY DAY before bed. But, again, it would only...

    I... need to ... sleep ... zZzZz

When I got him I chose him (among 5 kitties) because of his lovely blueish/gray color. All 5 were closed in a room. The lady said that this cat was very annoyed for being inside the room and the most loud in telling everyone he wanted to leave the room. I didnt pay much attention at that time...

    I... need to ... sleep ... zZzZz

No. He is a persian that I got precisely because I thought he we be a calmer, more relaxed cat, suitable for an apartment. My mistake. He is more active that any of the cats I previously had as a child. He gets tired, he does, but 2 hour sleep is enough for him to get "recharged" and ready for...

    I... need to ... sleep ... zZzZz

No. Didn't know them! Interesting... But it seems like a big investment, considering the change that my cat will ignore it and play with the its boxes instead. Happens way too often when I buy him toys ;)
