I thought of a couple possibilities.
One is, most cats go crazy over temptation treats, what about tossing a couple a bit away from you so it buys you time to get around him.
The other is use citrus smell, like throw some rain boots on and rub lemon on them if you don't want to buy the spray...
I do think it looks like something is just really stuck on, it doesn't look like any extra skin thing, like a tag or other.
Maybe try soaking in a warm bath?
It may very well be due to constipation, but it can be that he is constipated due to eating/drinking less.
The key regardless of cause is to be sure his intake of fluid and water is as much as usual or close to it as possible every day.
12 week olds have just a very small reserve and will go...
I can't tell you what to do, it's surprising he is still alive after having it for a week honestly, and surely due to his care at the vet.
He might be lucky and pull through, it happens, but honestly more often not.
I'm sure it's running up quite a bill, and he may still not make it. But then...
Panleuk is extremely contagious and hearty. A cat can pee in the grass, the winter time the ground freezes and is covered in snow, then in the spring the grass regrows and the panleuk is back, it survived in the grass seed. One tough virus...
A kitten's core vaccines, the series of 3 will...
You can likely bet it is stomatitis. 7 month olds don't normally get inflamed gums unless they have an immune system that's over reacting, attacking the teeth thinking they don't belong there.
If it is, it is an ongoing, painful problem.
In the end, it's inevitable to have all teeth removed...
What a great feeling to see a better/brighter day, even if they're sporatic! It's a heavy weight to bare at the point where we question if/when it's 'time'.
Seeing some of his old self is surely his way of saying, not time mom. Maybe even some hope that with taking the med, he may get back to...
My Simone would clean her face after eating but stopped grooming herself. Hard to imagine a pure white Persian NOT grooming, the coat is so dense and baby fine, a strand would literally float in the air. Then the undercoat would matt very fast and tight. :please:
What a nightmare. That was a big...
Very nice of you to give an update, it's been a long time since this thread, and so sorry to hear the struggles you and he are going through at this point. I was feeling emotional as I read this update, then reading that he's having a better day today helped a lot.
Emotional because I went...
Oh my gosh, do you have any idea how often I think of our Fonzie??!! I have some sort of bond to him, I can't explain it but honestly he has never faded from my memory, and even though it's ben so long since hearing from you and how he was doing, I just knew he was a happy boy and knew he had a...
I meant to reply to the OP's comment/question as well regarding tracking viruses in to the house from outside.
In case anyone is not aware, Panleuk virus is extremely hearty and stabile, and can/does live for 18 months on surfaces, fomites (anything that absorbs, clothing, towels, furniture...
My education on FIP came from the same vet mentioned in the article, Dr Niels Pederson as well as Dr Kate Hurley, also well known, both at UC Davis Vet School.
I would say these 2 would be an excellent choice to contact in writing.
Interesting thoughts movinintime!
Only certain vaccines are needed and only so often. Finally, long overdue, the US Dept of Agriculture changed what is needed from annually, to every 3 years, but that is still too much.
Personally and in my rescue group, I stick to the series of 3 kitten vaccines, which is their CORE protection...
