I have 2 foster babies (7 weeks old).
The boy was just not doing well. When I took him in to the vet we found a pus abscess. The vet feels it is staph infection.
We are having a culture done and he is on medication, but assuming that it IS staph, how contagious is he to other cats? What...
I have 16 house cats, a lot by many people's standards, but nevertheless we manage.
Yes, we have learned to live with hair and tracks of cat litter.
Your best advice is----
1) make sure you have enough litter boxes...........don't skimp because you think you do not have the space for the...
I have been a pet groomer (and cat parent) over 20 years. And YES, you can shave a cat.....long or short coated. It may, or may not help THEM feel cooler (they simply won't tell you ) but most cats, including my own, seem to enjoy the feeling after they've been shaved.
It is MUCH safer to...

Thanks.
I forgot about the weekly shampoo for him. (DUH! How could I forget...the vet asked me to bathe ALL the cats in the house to make certain to contain the spores)
Any way, the good news is that 1 of the 2 spots is starting to look better.
Time heals all ills, correct?
I have 1 foster cat with ringworm. he entered my home on a monday and I spotted it within 27 hours. I separated him in his own room, alone.
I read a lot of info and got a lot of advice, but what I would really like is some words from people who have actually had ringworm in their home. Since...
It is causing (or seems to be causing) a very bad diarrhea. But you seem to be correct, my vet (vet #2) seems to think that it might be a natural occuring bacteria for cats.
In your opinion, what could be causing the diarrhea if nothing else but campy was found?
I foster for a rescue group. We are kind of spead out so we use different vets. Vet #1 has been finding "campy" (campylobacter, a bacteria) in direct stool samples and dispensing Erythromycin as the cure. Vet #2 (mine) can't even find that campy is a problem in cats nor that Erythromycin is...
Thanks guys. This is a VERY old thread. I did not (after all) hold at 13 cats. I do foster cats for a rescue group and "failed" two times. Bonnie was adopted shortly after this thread in August and Mickey in December of 2003. But since then over 60 cats have come to live here and moved on...
I ALWAYS vote, I ALWAYS look at the winners and I sometimes add a caption.
The only thing I'd change about the caption part is that each person only post ONE caption per picture.
Those feelings are natural and if you did NOT feel them I would wonder how much you REALLY cared.
Your best bet is to make sure he goes to an organization that requires its applicants to return the kitty to them if for any reason it is not wanted any longer. That will hopefully prevent him...
She will, in time. And sometimes that is a LOT of time.
A few tips:
Stay low. Sit or better yet lay on the floor.
No sudden movements.
Be in the room without actually trying to get her attention, just let her watch you.
Hand feed her, don't just leave food down. Let her make the connection...
I don't prefer flat faces. It is a simple preference. But, as a groomer, I see a multitude of those flat faced cats whose eyes are left so goopy they actually have the equivilent of diaper rash under them (NOW THAT IS UGLY!). And grooming customers whose cats have noses so short it pains me...
