De-claw what is the big deal?

It is impossible to feel pain under general anesthetic. The cat's response is most likely reflex which she mistakenly think is related to the feeling of pain. A properly raised cat will not bite, whether or not it is declawed. You have to push the cat pretty hard for it to resort to biting...

    Rescue and automatic declaw!

I consider automatic declawing an unnecessary expense. It makes more sense to offer to declaw the cat if the client ask for it. It has always been cheaper for me to just buy a few scratch post for the cats, and they generally leave the furnitures alone. Then again, I also don't have very...

Kitten likes to bite my feet, help!

I have a kitten now 6 months old. He's a bit timid and usually likes to hide under the couch for extensive period of time, etc. But at night he's real active and would jump up and down of my bed. He also love biting on my feet, as if it is some kind of hunting exercise. How do I stop this?

    Scared kitten

My sister has had a kitten since its birth, now at 6 month. She might have been too forceful in dealing with the cat in the past and now the animal is scared and wants to hide under the bed all the time. What should she do to improve their relationship?

    Dry vs. Wet Food

Feeding any living organism any kind of food will cause numberless health problems. Eating what we deem "health food" today might one day prove deadly. There is unbeatable convenience in feeding dry, but the health benefit of feeding wet is undocumented and anecdotal at best, and probably is a...

    Cat has dandruff?

I haven't checked his ear, but during a vet visit 2-3 months ago no ear mite was found. However, my other cat has ear mite and is undergoing treatment. Is ear mite contagious? How can this be due to ear mites? Thanks.

    Cat has dandruff?

He's black and white, and this is the first time I have notice the dandruff, although the wounds below the ear has been around for a while. It is neither getting worse or better. He also sheds large amount of hair. I used to feed Natural Balance but now feed him Iams. When the remaining...

    Cat has dandruff?

My 4 year old cat has some white things that look like dandruff on his hair. I didn't know that cats can have dandruff. Is this a medical condition? He also has "wound" just below each ear, that look like dried blood. Maybe he scratched himself too hard and broke his own skin?

    Characteristic of an abused cat?

Just picked up a kitten about 6 months old, heard it might have been abused by prior owner. There is no sign of physical injury on the cat, except that it flinches when I lift my hand, as if afraid of being hit. What signs should I look for?

Cat Food, want to know what you are feeding your cat?

Eat what your cat enjoys eating and doesn't get sick on. It's a cat, leave it at that.

    Kiiten food --> adult food....when?

The whole idea behind special kitten food for kittens is flawed. You don't need to feed your kitten special kitten food, as long as whatever food you are feeding has sufficient protein, fat, etc. to meet the animal's need. Many high quality adult food is better than kitten food.

    Kitten with bloated tummy?

My kitten is an rescue from an old farm. She probably has worms. Since both me and my wife works, we usually feed her twice a day, but leave the food out for her.

    Kitten with bloated tummy?

My kitttie has the exact same problem, she's five weeks old as well and has been dewormed. I feed the cat about 2.5-3 oz of wet food mixed with cat mill each day. She's pretty skinny except for her belly , I can easily feel her spine, her skull and her rib cage. She seems healthy, eats a lot...

    FeLV/FIV

I have an adult cat who has had vaccination for FeLV/FIV. Is it safe to introduce a kitten who has not been vaccinated to him? Do cats need such vaccination every year or just once in a lifetime?

Taking care of very young kitten!

He doesn't seem overly friendly to the little cat, but isn't too hostile either. I guess he's unsure about the new comer. I am most concerned about the litter situation though. If the adult cat doesn't teach the kitten to use one, how do I train her to use the litterbox?

Taking care of very young kitten!

I visited my sister's farm and brought back home a 5-week old female kitten, b/c her mom and littermates had all been killed by a raccoon living somewhere near the farm. I have been feeding the kitten milk replacement for puppy, (but will soon get kitten milk once that becomes available), and...
