Our kittens all like to tussle a lot - but mom doesn't seem interested in disciplining them, so when things get out of hand, I separate them. (Would spray them with the water bottle except it doesn't bother them! ) They're still learning boundaries and if no adult cat is showing them where...
Feliways got plugged in ASAP at the new place. I rest quite a lot of faith in those things!
We're hoping temp stress too -- for now we're putting some anti-itch stuff on the worst of it, and the kittens go in to the vet for their 2nd set of shots in a week, so she'll go in with them then...
She is grooming like crazy -- and her fur is thin to begin with, so...
Is there any sort of home remedy that anyone knows of to help her get past this? Whether it be stuff to help soothe or stuff to prevent the overgrooming...
So, I adopted my little love bug Ms Friskers from the parking lot about 5 months ago (geez has it really been so long) -- she was pregnant at the time, gave birth to 3 healthy kittens, fostered 2 more, and was a generally splendid mom.
She had some trouble learning to get along with our current...
*laughs* You know, I'd never even thought about the yeast -- which is funny because we use Red Star nutritional yeast flakes as a treat for the cats, because they like it so much! (Literally they will LICK it off their kibbles...)
Sounds totally normal! Be glad he's still being active -- our kittens got to a few months shy of 1 years old and decided that they preferred a life of napping, napping, eating, and more napping, and promptly put on 2 lbs apiece and had to go on a diet!
Chasing anything that moves is a popular...
Whatever happened to the good old fashioned spray bottle (or Supersoaker, depending on your annoyance level/aim)?
I've used that all my life to discourage cats from being places they aren't supposed to. All they learn, ever, is not to be there when people are around, but at least it saves a...
It will get more adorable, that's for sure! We only have 5 kittens running around and they are a constant source of delight -- I could sit and watch them all day except that would be a terrible idea.
Ha, our kittens started doing this around week 6 -- I just figured that they had "learned" about hissing, so to speak, and were trying it out on everyone and everything that they could -- they also spent a lot of time randomly hissing at each other.
It was pretty darned hilarious though...
Wow - and here I had just thought that Mr Fuzzy (yeah we ran out of names at my parents' place a few years ago) was just a freak -- he would do the same thing - eat through ANYTHING that he could just to get to the bread. None of our other cats ever cared about bread in the slightest.
We just...
Our cats acted like this as well with our kittens -- particularly the fear. I interpreted that as them knowing that there was probably a very protective mommy kitty somewhere who would beat them up if they messed with the kittens (as it turns out, our cats were quite right if they were thinking...
For the first time in my life, just recently, I went to the doctor about a cat injury. Anything that is a serious puncture wound, meaning a very small hole that went fairly deep, you should really haul yourself to the doctor to get a tetanus shot and get put on antibiotics. With cat bite...
The eye infection antibiotics I got from my vet ALSO were the exact same ingredients as the drug store triple antibiotic ointment -- but it didn't have percentages or quantities on the one from the vet. Anyone know if they really are the same thing, or is the vet one different in some way?
Just agreeing with everyone else/offering more reassurance -- I just used a regular, bought it at the CVS, person heating pad, with a double layered towel on top of it, set to medium, and I left it running continuously for about 10 days. Never had any problems, and the kittens were always...
Yup -- I think this is a stray/feral/rescue thing -- I'd never seen it before in my life but Ms Friskers does it all the time. I've mostly tried to dissuade her from doing it, since it freaks out my roomie and guests, but yeah -- she just means it as a little love snuggle... with teeth.
Trust me, if he'd do it, we'd be happy to let him. Prior to going into heat, she bit him twice because of his overly inquisitive nature towards her kittens, so he's pretty dedicated to keeping his distance now.
So ... Ms Friskers is in heat. And has been for about two weeks now. Will this ever end? She's still nursing the kittens, and the vet won't spay until she's weaned them. But she's starting to make me and roomie a little crazy. Plus she's stalking our fixed male cat, which would be adorable...
Sounds to me like they've all accepted that they're stuck together, and now they're trying to figure out who gets to be "better" than who.
I wouldn't worry unless they get really violent about it. It's natural for them to figure out their ranking by tussling. I find a spray bottle does...
