He actually is still grooming himself, but he's not doing a very good job. He's confused by the excess hair, especially around his neck, because it keeps getting stuck in his mouth now when he's grooming. He just doesn't really know how to groom well now since he's not used to it.
My cats tend not to use beds. They have accepted a few, but snub most of them. At night, a few will come in and sleep with us on and off, especially our fluffy one who likes to steal my pillow and suffocate me in his fur. Generally, the rule is if they don't wake us up and bother us, they can...
Hey all,
So I have an interesting situation going on with my boy right now. He is 5 years old and always had amazing medium-length hair that was long enough to be fluffy, but never matted. This is an older picture just to show the length. I wouldn't call him a full longhair by any means; he...
I realize this thread is a little old, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU!! I've been trying to figure out how to make my Petmate carrier easier to carry (the handle HURTS!), and I'm so glad you mentioned the Belle Hop wraps. I immediately ordered them!
Hi all!
I have 2 litters of kittens right now - 5 weeks old, and 7 weeks old. I have never had kittens in the spring/summer before (only autumn litters). We've been having some 80-90 degree days recently and I'm not sure what to do. I know they can regulate their body temperatures now, so...
Vet visit update: She is a little under 1 year old and weighs 4.6 pounds. Because she's so underweight, they won't spay her for 2 weeks until she can gain some weight. They are also going to check her paws again at that time. He said it's probably either trauma from the cold (frostbite) or...
I have been talking with the lady who is taking her this weekend for the rescue group, and she is having me take her to the vet this evening to get her paws checked out (and shots and tested while there). It's nice to work with a group who really cares about the work they do
After doing some more research, I think she might have had a little bit of frostbite on her toes, so I think it's probably a good thing if she's feeling pain instead of nothing at all, it means it's healing.
Strange_wings, I was going to get that Neosporin tomorrow so I'm glad I read your post...
We're keeping her inside, the rescue group I work with will be taking her in a few days to get her spayed and try to find a home for her. It's just so sad to see her so cautious with her feet.
We had a big snowstorm today and we happened to catch a stray that's been around our neighborhood for awhile. We gave her a bath and noticed that her paw pads have red splotches and look pretty raw and torn up a bit. They've been salting the sidewalks like crazy so I think that's what did it...
I don't really have a suggestion, because I never found a solution, but it's kind of funny: my old cat used to chew her food over the water side of her dish and keep getting chunks of kibble in the water. My solution was to move her water dish--completely into another room. She must have had...
I use the Animal Welfare League in White Plains, NY. They sell low-cost spay/neuter certificates. I pay about $40 for a neuter, I believe a spay is $60? When we go to the vet, we also have the option of adding a rabies shot for $10 with the certificate.
Yay, something I have plenty of knowledge to offer!
If you really want to go the oral route, you can use Capstar AND Program. Capstar will kill any adult fleas currently on the cat, and Program is a liquid you add to their food that kills flea eggs and larvae. You really have to use both...
Sigh...I can't have any rugs except for a large area rug in the living room. Any throw rug I have out will get twisted, sledded, moved, ripped, and generally abused. We have went through 2 or 3 bath mats before giving up on them altogether, since for some reason, our cats just can't stop...
