    I need info on FeLV

I have wonderful news. Ariel tested negative for FeLV by the IFA blood test! This was terrifying, but only a scare. It makes one appreciate all the more how much our kittys mean to us. Also how much your prayers and wishes helped. Oh, the lessons of life! ABI

    I need info on FeLV

Thank you, everyone, for your wishes and prayers. This has been a very trying time. (I also badly hurt my leg in a serious car accident!) My "girls" are 4 years old and are sisters from the same litter. I bred the mother, Tristan to a tom who had a good bill of health. He did stud many other...

    I need info on FeLV

I desperately need to know how accurate the "quick test" for FeLV is. I believe this test done by the vet at her office is an ELISA. Are there things that can cause a false positive test? Is the IFA blood test more specific? This one is sent out to a laboratory. Please Help!!!!

    Tom Cat Cake

How about ground lamb? We could call this variation "Mouse-aka". No eggplant or potatoes (the nightshade family)! That is poison to felidae. My Lady McBeth is to have kittens next week. Maybe Mouse-aka will be the perfect post-partum treat. Abi

Ok, You all will think I am crazy now.

Hi there Tonya: I apologize for not posting a detailed list and instructions this weekend. I'm a doctor and was on call this past weekend. I do have a list of items to get and have ready because my Lady McB will also have kittens soon. There is a great book with birthing instructions (and...

Ok, You all will think I am crazy now.

I will be glad to give you some birthing instructions. Since you adopted the queen (mom cat) you don't know exact dates of breeding, but have been told she is about 6wks, she probably has about another 2-3 wks to go. Usual is 63 - 65 days. There are slight breed variations. Go to the Health...

Cat has blood clot from fight in his ear......

Agreed, an vet visit is needed to see if something is infected or needs to be incised and drained (I&D). Are you anywhere near a school of vetinary medicine? I hope your Tom's ear heals up soon.

    generations in cats

Hi Tigger: Congrads on the kittens! I've bred rats and mice, perhaps that example would answer your question. Take a brown rat and breed it to a white rat. The litter will consist of brown rats with white spots. These are F1 hybrids. These F1's will have biological traits of both parents...

    Which breed of cat?

Glad to hear that your family is taking the plunge into the world of cats. I fully agree that keeping a cat indoors is healthiest for your pet and outdoor wildlife. There are many great references to providing safe and stimulating entertainment for the house-bound kitty. For example; ceiling...

Tranquility fountains as cat's drinking water

My Somalis love to play (and drink) in water. Every time I walk near the bathroom they beg me to turn on the tap. I was thinking of getting one of those table top fountains, but I know the cats will drink from it and play in it. Would this be safe for them if I change the water twice daily?

Home-style pregnancy test...Do Queens have a positive test?

Thus far, a vet at Yale U told me that the human pregnancy test will not work on a pregnant queen because "the hormone spikes are different". I am still looking into this because I am not sure if it is a matter of timing when the test is done vs incompatibility. Abi

Home-style pregnancy test...Do Queens have a positive test?

I put the question out to some of the vets at Yale (where I work)hopefully, I'll have an answer soon. I might also contact someone I know at VHUP who specializes in Aby and Mollie genetics. My bred kitty has alittle morning sickness and hasn't gone into heat yet.

Home-style pregnancy test...Do Queens have a positive test?

Thanks Harriet: I have two Queens who are sisters. I just bred one and am watching for the signs you mentioned, I guess I will obtain urine from each of them and perform the experiment. If the bred one doesn't go into heat, I'll take her for the usual U/S. Regardless of the result, I will post...
