19 year old cat with dental extraction

Hello! I haven't been here in awhile. My 19 year old girl with controlled kidney disease is showing signs of a dental issue. Her vet identified this issue a few years ago but we thought we might be able to control it. We are meeting with her vet next week to see how severe the issue is, but I...

When to make the decision about putting the cat down

Hello, I'm so sorry you're going through this - I'm sure it's painful and stressful. My advice is no, you're cat is not ready. Quality of life may be diminishing but that does not mean it's time to put him down. CBD is an excellent option. Also, we've put my senior girl on supplements when she...

Homemade cat food for renal failure

Hello, I'm wanting to make homemade cat food for my cat with kidney disease but she hates everything I make. Today I tried basmanti rice with chicken ground in a blender and added her omega 3 supplement to it. She ate a small amount but didn't seem to dig it. Has anyone else had any luck?

Kidney Disease - What's working for us

My baby, Ming, was diagnosed with kidney disease almost two years ago. When she was diagnosed they told us she had 6 months to two years to live. I was shaken and almost destroyed ; I'm a girl in my mid thirties without any children and my cat means everything to me. I started to cry and the...

Back leg issue with 15 year old cat

Hello, It's been awhile since I've been here. My baby has been doing very well with her kidney disease. She's 15, just under 8 pounds and is happy. My Cats Won't Get Along For The Life Of Them!

I have to be frank - they might never get along and it might not ever be worth the stress. I had a similar situation in my house and we had to give my male cat to my mother in-law. I was one of the best things I've done - instantly I was calm and I knew he was okay. Cats fighting 24/7 can be...

    Cats On Azodyl?

Hi there, My baby, Ming, has been on Azodyl for about 2 months to treat her kidney disease. I'm terrified that I'm cursing myself for saying all of this, but the results so far have been really good. Her appetite is incredible, she's gaining weight, she is drinking way less water, way fewer...

Dealing With Kidney Failure - What's Working For Us

All my cat will eat is BFF. At first she loved the kidney prescription food since it was new but then instantly hated it after 2 days. At least with BFF the protein is reasonably low and the phosphate is low. I've taken a gamble on Azodyl and am hoping it's working.

Has Anyone Tried Azodyl For Kidney Cats?

I took my baby in for a check-up, she has been doing great with the exception of a few 'off' days here and there. The vet found her creatinine has gone up to 3.5. I was devastated. She has had a ton of energy and seemed really happy. The past two days after we brought her home from the vet she...

Diet For Cat With Kidney Disease

Hi there, I'm in the same situation as you - my cat's creatinine levels are going up and she's losing weight. We're going to a specialist later this week but here's what my vet has prescribed: RX vitamins for pets RX Renal feline (gets one a day), Azodyl mixed with food twice a day. I really...

Dealing With Kidney Failure - What's Working For Us

Second stage is scary - that's where we're at too. We got Ming on Renafood which is supposed to support the kidneys. In some cases they have found Renafood lowers kidney levels. I would really give it a shot. Put your cat on a low phosphate food such as Best Feline Friend. My cat loves it. The...

Dealing With Kidney Failure - What's Working For Us

Thanks for the reply! I've looked into hyperthyridism and I REALLY hope she does not have it but I will ask the vet to look into it. She does not have the following symptoms associated with the disease, so fingers crossed we're okay! hyperactivity, unkempt appearance, panting, diarrheaand...
