10year old cat pooping outside the box

The truth is I am happy that it is poop and not pee. He is doing it consistantly in the same spot which makes it even easier to clean up, but of coarse I would prefer that he not poop on the floor. I also don't want to miss something health related.

10year old cat pooping outside the box

Last week my 10 year old cat Levi decided to poop on the floor in front of the litter box. He is peeing in the box without a problem. He did have a UTI once that caused him to pee outside the box but once that was fixed that problem went away. He has now been pooping on the floor every day twice...

    Food and water behaviors

I have a couple of quick questions: 1. Several of my cats like to drink out of the dog bowl. My dog's water bowl is elevated and they have to stand on their back legs to get a drink. (My dog is a 105 lb Rotti/Shepard mix) One of my cats will only drink from that bowl. Does anyone else have cats...

Need some serious advice on trying to keep kitten INDOORS

Two of my cats are 10 years old and this was a problem when they were young and has recenly become a problem again because they think if the dog gets to go out so do they. The good thing is that my yard is fenced and they aren't intrested in getting out just in eating grass. That gives me time...

    Prevent urinary blockage

Just this past week I have had my first experince with a blocked cat. I have four other males ranging in age from 10 to 4 years old. I have never (knock on wood) had a problem with crystals. One had a urinary infection once, but antibiotics cleared it up and never had an issue again. The cat...

    Something strange with my kitten

If her eyes cross which I have seen in not just pure bred siamese cats, but in many siamese mix cats, she will have a smaller vision range than cats who's eyes don't cross.

2 y/o cat with possible blockage

So the official word yesterday was that he did have a blockage. I guess they had a hard time even cathing him because there was so much setiment & debris. I haven't heard about the final results but they left the cath in over night & if he is peeing well today he can come home.

2 y/o cat with possible blockage

They are going to do a urinalysis today. I'm not sure if they will take the urine throu cysto or place the catheter first. Either way he is going to be sedated. I never thought I'd say this but I'm glad he wanted to pee on the floor. I might not have known otherwise.

2 y/o cat with possible blockage

My feral foster cat Leon is at the vet today with a possible urinary blockage. I have dealt with cats with crystals and infections, but never a blockage. I know he will have to be on perscription food from here on out, but I have a couple questsion for others with more experience. First, he is...

    Has anyone ever used Amatriptalyne?

We have a cat at the shelter that the vet has put on Amatriptalyne. She is the most high strung cat I have ever seen. She had had a long term URI and that is part of why he perscribed it for her. I would normally go the more natural route, but this poor cat is so miserable that I felt it was...

    Rescued Siamese cats & questions

So over the weekend the 2 males developed URI's. I spoke with the perosn who actually went in and got the cats. Apparently they were living in horrific conditions. The younger of the 2 males is at the vet today. In addition to the nystagmus he has an odd head sway. So he was first on the list to...

    Rescued Siamese cats & questions

Thank you both. They were abandoned in an owner occupied duplex. So the 80 some year old Land Lady was taking care of them for 8 months. She told us that the original pair are brother and sister. I checked on Sunday and both males are intact, so who knows how many more babies may be on thier...

    Rescued Siamese cats & questions

Our shelter rescued 6 siamese cats over the weekend. They had been abandoned in an appartment for 8 months and needed to be saved. We have certainly had siamese cats before, but usually not pure bred. I just have a few questions and thought this would be the best forum to ask the questions...

    11 month old with Hydrocephalus

I didn't think about tracking his head circumfrance, but that is a great idea. I will have to do that tonight when I stop at the shelter. To me his head actually looked smaller yesterday, but without a circumfrance there is no way to know for sure. His eyes look normal to me, maybe a bit odd but...

    11 month old with Hydrocephalus

Our shelter recently had a kitten returned at 11 months. He was not getting along with the other kittens in the home. He had been adopted several months ago, and no one noticed anything wrong with him at the time. When he came back we instantly noticed he had issues. Well it turns out that he...

4 to 6 week old kittens with fleas

I stopped by a local holistic Pet Food store that has helped me with issues with my dog with cancer. I asked them and they recommended buck mountain parasite dust. http://www.buckmountainbotanicals.net/treatments/parasitedust.html I'm going to rebathe them tonight & take a look again. What I...

4 to 6 week old kittens with fleas

I took in a couple of kittens on Monday night. they are about 4 - 6 weeks old based on size. they are eating on their own and I have been feeding wet food and KMR. They are rather small about 0.75 lbs. It is a long story, but basicly a feral group of cats was spayed, neutered and  moved from an...

    Pregnant with food allergy

We are a no-kill shelter so if we think a female is pregnant we will not abort the babies. To us that goes against what we are all about. She has red raw patches of skin that are missing hair in multiple places on her body. At any rate, I had x-rays done at the vet because I was concerned...

    Pregnant with food allergy

Hello T.C.S. I haven't been on in a long time, but I have a question. We have a cat at your shelter that appears to be pregnant (we tend to play the wait and see game when there is a possibility of pregnancy). She has developed a food allergy, and I'm just wondering if anyone has recommendations...

Waiting for pathology on removed eye

I may have posted photos. I had several vets tell me it was no big deal, but my new vet sent me to the eye specialist who said it was probably early stages of melenoma.
