Comment by 'forcryinoutloud' in article 'Do Cats Get Jealous? (and What To Do About It When They Do)'

Three of my four are jealous of attention when I give attention to any of the other cats. They will immediately try and get between me and the cat I am giving attention to at the time. They will shove the other cat out of the way - not aggressively, they'll actually rub against the other cat as...

    Bladder Crystals - Food Question

So one of my female cats ended up with a bladder infection that the vet believes was caused by crystals that were caused by the food she is on. She was eating Go! grain free kibble, and Performatrin Ultra Turkey Pate (also grain free) wet food - she has since been switched to almost exclusively...

    Question About Fortekor Dosage

Jack is on 5mg of fortekor a day for his heart and 3ml of lasix split in two doses. I give him the lasix in the morning, and at supper and the fortekor at night, because if he gets the lasix and fortekor too close together he just throws it all up. Last night however I got his pill ready, and...

    Laxatone

I ended up waiting an hour, as he was crying for food at that point and I don't like to discourage that as it's so hard to get him to eat - and now that he's on almost exclusively wet food (yay) I don't want to chance him deciding to hold off eating until he gets his small amount of kibble...

    Laxatone

I read you're supposed to give laxatone on an empty stomach so it has a chance to do its job - about how long after giving it can I give Jack food?

    Calculating Calories

Thank you. I found a site that explains how to calculate the protein percentages in both dry and wet food more clearly. All the foods I use have over 35% protein and the sites I've been looking at say 30% is a good amount to aim for for adults, so they're getting more than the average amount. So...

    Calculating Calories

They've been losing weight because I started restricting how much they were eating. They free fed before, now I've been calorie counting, and three lost too much weight in the first month, so I've increased the number of feedings and how much they were getting - which is why I am wondering if...

    Calculating Calories

I have tried the online calculators, but all the ones I use require you also add in the body shape of your cat, and other than Kitty who is clearly obese, the others fall somewhere in between the in between, so the scale might be 4-5-6 and you can chose are they 4, 5 or 6 but mine might be only...

    Calculating Calories

Kitty is on target for just under 2% a week weight loss. Jack is just a tiny bit over at .9 instead of .81. Scooter and Furgus are definitely over. Scooter lost a bit over double the 2% which worries me. I'm going to increase the amount she's been getting to see if she will eat it (she's not...

    Calculating Calories

I weighed everyone today, and all four cats have lost weight. I'm wondering though, how fast they should be losing weight? Scooter went from 10.4 pounds to 9 pounds in just under a month Kitty went from 13 to 12.4 Jack went from 13.5 to 12.6 and Furgus went from 12.2 to 10.4 (however, I did...

    Calculating Calories

No, definitely not. I mean, their stomachs are tiny - I'm not sure what cat food manufacturers are thinking...well, beyond trying to get cat owners to spend more money on cat food. I'm lucky if I can get Jack to eat a whole can of the 5.5oz ones. He'll only eat maybe half a teaspoon at a time.

    Calculating Calories

Thanks! According to that calculator, Jack should be eating 272kcal.

    Calculating Calories

I usually see the thousands of kcal per kg too, that's why the 500kcal/kg threw me, because I'd be VASTLY underfeeding Jack if there were only 500 kcal per kg. lol It must be a misprinting on the bag, because their website says 500kcal/cup.

    Calculating Calories

This is really, hopefully, only going to be something I maybe give him 1/8 cup of, once I can get him eating wet food but he is so very picky and won't eat anything unless it is almost entirely turkey - I opened a chicken pate yesterday but he won't even lick it let alone eat it. -sigh- My other...

    Calculating Calories

I just looked it up on the website and it says 500kcal/cup, so it must just be a misprint on the bag. So a huge amount of calories. Though, I've noticed that several brands of wet food I've been looking at list the feeding guideline on the 12.5 oz cans and it says 1 can per 6-8lbs and the 12.5...

    Calculating Calories

So, Jack is back on his original grain free dry while I am trying to convince him to eat wet, and I've been trying to figure out the calories but the bag has me confused. It says 500kcal/kg (per cup) - so is it 500kcal per cup, or per kg? Also, that seems like a HUGE number of calories. For...

    Hairball

@catladyboo Is the laxatone the malt or tuna flavored? My cats would run from the tuna one too - they HATED it. They really like the malt one though (the thera-bites are also really easy to give, since they're in treat form, and my cats chomp on the bag if I forget it on the desk, desperate to...

    The Good And The Bad

Thank you! I'm trying to come to terms with it and trying to make myself see that it really isn't an immediate death sentence - not the way my baby Daniel's cancer was :( It's just so scary when the vet mentions the possibility of Jack developing cancer too because he and Daniel were litter...

    Fortekor

Thank you! I am trying to accept that he has this, that it's necessary to just take it a day at a time and try not to get lost in the sadness of knowing that he's sick. Though it's hard, especially after having lost his brother a month ago and knowing that Jack is also sick. :( I'm glad to...
