It looks like the bitter apple is going to do the trick. I tried it, and when Bandit picked up his little snack, he immediately dropped it and walked away with a very offended expression on his face. He hasn't been to the box since, although I suspect it may take more than once to really break...
Okay, thanks! I did search, but didn't find anything that said it was okay for cats, and I never give them anything without making sure it's safe. I'll check these out.
It's an idea, for people whose living space will accommodate that kind of "no-go" zone. Unfortunately, mine will not, as the boxes are too close to things my dog needs to be able to reach.
There are some interesting suggestions in the video, but most of them seem to address dogs eating their own poop, which is not the problem here.
Sort of a funny story...years ago, I had a dog who stole food from people's plates. We tried putting Tabasco sauce on some food and leaving it...
I've had the same problem with a couple of my cats. They were on Science Diet c/d for a while, and it helped get rid of the crystals, but it really is awful stuff, other than that. Please read all the information on the YA website before making a decision. I will say, these folks get very...
My problem has to do with dog behavior, but ultimately, the question is about what is safe for my cats. If this post belongs somewhere else, please accept my apologies.
I have two dogs, one of whom will not stay away from the litter boxes. The dogs receive quality food, so it's not any kind...
What is he eating? There is a company called Young Again that has had very good results in helping diabetic cats, by feeding starch-free foods. It is expensive, but apparently some cats have been able to be taken off insulin.
I'm not really worried about that, because my cats seem to enjoy new foods. The problem I am having is how quickly they lose interest if I feed the same thing for too long. Right now I am feeding canned and dry. I found Young Again Zero Carb online, and am pleased with it, so I got some of...
Update!
I'm still feeding canned, but I've upgraded the quality, and am also leaving out Young Again dry food, which I decided to try out about a month ago. I also got multiple fountains, and the cats seem to like them. I watch the litter boxes like a hawk, and will often jump up from...
I came across this thread looking at different dry foods that might be acceptable to serve as part of my cats' diet. There are a few in the running, but that really is a topic for another thread. The issue I have had with my cats has never been that they won't try a new food, even when I first...
I decided last week to give this food a try, so I thought I would add my two cents to this thread, if anyone is still interested.
I have six cats. Three are overweight, and four have been treated for UTI issues, one of them twice. My vet advised me to put all the cats on Science Diet c/d...
I am so sorry about the loss of your kitty. (((hugs)))
It's very interesting that your vet said that. It reminded me of something. The problems with my cats started when they were getting a dry food for indoor cats. I don't know for sure, but I am guessing that both indoor and hairball...
I would love to try this idea. Unfortunately, I have at least one cat who dislikes any kind of enclosed box. I might have to give it a go, anyway, as I am tired of being kissed by pups who've been to the snack bar.
I had planned to use it together with either a very high meat-content canned food, eventually replacing that part of the diet with raw meat from Hare Today, but I've given up on it for the cats, and I returned it today. Even when I mixed a small amount with canned food that they like, they...
Pork chops and mashed potatoes with gravy, and fried okra. I'm almost embarrassed to say it, but there is a gas station/convenience store down the road that sells crazy cheap home-cooked food in huge portions, and the chops are Monday's offering. It's obviously not fancy, but it always smells...
May I ask your location? Many communities have low-cost or free spay/neuter programs, and some even have food pantries for pets, to help people facing financial difficulties keep their animals. I am familiar with a few of them.
Please be careful if you use craigslist, both for your own safety, and that of the kitties. Be sure you ask for a small rehoming fee, just to ward off people who want free animals to sell to labs or use to train fighting dogs.
You will have better luck rehoming your boy if you get him neutered.
I am trying to help an area rescue find a home for a sweet cat I met Saturday at an adoption event. The cat is still with her owner, but the owner has lost her housing, and is being forced to give the cat up. She's a tortoiseshell, about four years old, and most people seem to want kittens...
