    Artie and his Issues

I hadn't checked the thread in a few days and something told me to check today. I'm so sorry for your loss. You were lucky to have Artie and he was so very lucky to have you. I started following Artie's journey when my own soul cat Ruby was ill. Since she passed about a year ago, I've still...

    Artie and his Issues

I'm so sorry to hear things aren't going well with Artie. I know it's frustrating. I tried every trick I could think of with Ruby and second guessed everything I could. Maybe if I feed at this time of day? Maybe she only eats when I'm home? Maybe she wants this and I don't have it? And then what...

    Artie and his Issues

I'm so sorry to hear that things didn't go well for Artie today. I know all too well the burden of getting that bad news. We're all pulling for you both and I hope you're just spending some quality time with Artie tonight and trying not to worry. There's plenty of time to worry tomorrow.

Black Specs On Lower Lip/chin, Plus Lethargy And Dry Heaving?

Although it kind of does just look like a dirty chin, a couple possibilities for the black specks are acne or allergy. Chin acne is sometimes caused by bacteria that lives on plastic food bowls, so if you're not using glass, ceramic or stainless steel you might consider switching. This worked...

The Struggle Of Food And Not Sleeping

Hi Leen, It might be more helpful to know how often she's eating and how much she's eating in a day. Friskies generally isn't considered a quality cat food, particularly with the dry stuff. My cat was on a Purina brand that I didn't realize wasn't the highest quality food and it let to a lot of...

    Artie and his Issues

You're not weird at all, all the cuddling and purring is a proven stress reliever! I could never sleep if Ruby didn't come to bed. If she wasn't there when I woke up I'd have to go find her. After she passed away I couldn't sleep at all. I recorded her purring on my phone and sometimes if I get...

    Artie and his Issues

That's good news! I had MUCH better luck using small syringes with Ruby. I could only use 1 ml syringes (which probably aren't practical for the amount of meds you're giving) and rarely I could use a 5 ml syringe that had a long skinny end (it's a reusable one made for giving baby meds), but I...

Post pics of your babies that have passed so everyone can see their cute lil faces

It's true and the pain will pass for us both, or at least sting less. But that pain is how we know it was true love. That little girl taught me everything I know about love and sacrifice and I'm eternally grateful to her for it.

I Still Miss My Ruby, I Always Will

You know, my vet had asked me repeatedly if I was OK with her dying at home, some people just can't handle the reality of it. I told her that if Ruby wasn't in pain or suffering, that I definitely wanted to be with her and have her final moments be as comfortable as possible. If she had been an...

I lost my Ruby a month ago. She was my soul mate and my baby bear and I'll miss her forever.

I Still Miss My Ruby, I Always Will

Tomorrow will mark one month since I lost my dear, sweet Ruby. There hasn’t been a single day I haven’t missed her with all my heart. In some ways it almost aches more now, I just crave holding her now more than ever. I would give just about anything to hold her again. I adopted Ruby a couple...

    Artie and his Issues

I understand exactly how you feel, I went through this with my Ruby. She would do fairly good with meds and then suddenly go through a spell when she wouldn't take them any more no matter what. She never EVER liked being given her meds by syringe, but when she stopped taking them in food (I used...

9 Yo Female Not Eating: Ibd? Lymphoma?

Ruby lost her battle last night around 7:30. She had been struggling for the past couple days and she was fighting so hard. Friday night she had gotten up in the middle of the night and hid under a bed and I knew the end was coming soon. By Saturday afternoon she could no longer walk or support...

    Artie and his Issues

Do keep an eye on his skin and ears though! Steroids can make their skin fragile (sores, tears easily and bleeds). If you see the tips of his ears drooping or folding over it could be Cushings disease. It's not common, but it happened to my girl.

    Artie and his Issues

Steroids might cause some hair loss. They do cause thinning coat. My Ruby has been on a high (10mg/day) dose of prednisolone for a couple months (lower dose for several months preceding) and I noticed her hair was thinning. She had been shaved for an ultrasound procedure and blood draws 7 months...

9 Yo Female Not Eating: Ibd? Lymphoma?

Sigh. Things are starting to get tough for my baby. Her appetite has been slowly declining for awhile, even with meds and stimulants. She lost a couple pounds in a single month. Since Friday she hasn't really eaten and now she refuses all food. She drinks plenty of water though. Her skin is...

9 Yo Female Not Eating: Ibd? Lymphoma?

In this case it was a double edged sword. It's tough to see it causing her issues, but it's also probably the only reason I've had the last four months with her. Initially we had hoped to taper, but every time we started to she'd crash again and that's when we realized it wasn't just IBD. I'm...

9 Yo Female Not Eating: Ibd? Lymphoma?

That's probably a good way to approach it. On Friday I noticed the tips of Ruby's ears had drooped. I did a little research and called the vet, it appears she has most likely developed Cushing's Syndrome (too much cortisol in her system) from the long period of high-dose pred. She has most...

9 Yo Female Not Eating: Ibd? Lymphoma?

The important thing to remember is your hopefully just trying to get her over the hump. If you need strong meds to get the nausea and inflammation under control, it's just until you can find a better long term plan that hopefully doesn't require meds.

9 Yo Female Not Eating: Ibd? Lymphoma?

Try ReddiWhip if you ever have to pill a cat that won't take to it. I can't pill Ruby at all and I've read a lot of bad things about unswallowed pills causing esophageal damage. I just take any pill, smash it with a spoon and mix it with a tiny dab of ReddiWhip. I think the Prednisolone I use...
