    Addison's Disease

I am back. After about three weeks on her medications, florinef and prednisolone, we went in for a lab check. Her results showed that her electrolytes had completely switched from the original low sodium/high potassium to now high sodium/low potassium. Despite these readings on her blood...

    Addison's Disease

My 16yo senior kitty was diagnosed with Addison's disease recently. My vet told me that she is only the second kitty she's had with Addison's in her 30+ year career. I didn't realize how rare it is in cats until I started looking online for more information and didn't find much. Looking...

    Getting cat to take medication

I spoke with the vet. She wasn't thrilled with me pulverizing the pills only because you cannot guarantee that you are not missing part of the dose when dealing with the powder and mixing it into another substance. The vet sent our prescription over to Wedgewood and we are having it...

    Getting cat to take medication

Thank you all, I will be talking to the vet tomorrow and will ask her if it can be compounded differently. I had a bit of luck today by crushing the pills into powder and mixing them with a yogurt like treat that we bought. I call it cat yogurt but it has no dairy, it's like liquified tuna...

    Getting cat to take medication

My senior kitty was just diagnosed with a condition that is going to have her on daily pills for the rest of her life. I have had to force feed her the pills so far which is traumatic for us both. I've tried hiding them in everything I can think of... every kind of treat, crushed in...

Diarrhea, Constipation, Refusing food and water

Results are in, she "failed" her ACTH stimulation test by a long shot so it is confirmed she has Addison's disease. We are starting two meds today and will check in with vet in a couple of days if no improvement. For now I am very relieved that we have answers. :)

Diarrhea, Constipation, Refusing food and water

Thank you, this reply gave me some hope. I went to work for a few hours today and came home to her. She is having muscle spasms/twitching now... a new symptom from when I left her this morning. :( It isn't impacting her ability to get around right now but still concerning. I'm hopeful...

Diarrhea, Constipation, Refusing food and water

Blood work results are back and we are more stumped than before. Everything came back completely normal except for extremely low sodium and extremely high potassium. We are having her admitted for the day tomorrow so they can run tests to determine whether she has addison's disease. My vet...

Diarrhea, Constipation, Refusing food and water

Shes eating tiny bits here and there for around the first 6hrs after she gets her nausea and pain meds. Not a lot but she will eat a few bites then back off like it bothers her. The meds are supposed to be 24hrs so I can only dose her 24hrs apart, but it doesnt seem like the meds last that...

Diarrhea, Constipation, Refusing food and water

16yo female cat, spayed, otherwise healthy until two weeks ago. Two weeks ago I noticed her straining when pooping and some hard poop found outside the litterbox. I assumed constipation and made an appt with her vet, but first available appt wasnt for two weeks out. She was eating/drinking...

    Ibd/pancreatitis, Possibly Lymphoma...

My 11yo cat has been vomiting persistently and losing weight over the last few months. She has lost 3lbs over the span of about 8 weeks, she is currently down to 10lbs. She's a large cat so she looks like skin and bones at 10lbs. She recently had an abdominal ultrasound which showed...

Fostering a mom and her kittens...she is getting fat!

I thought i should mention that she cannot be spayed yet - they told me she needed to be away from her kittens (not nursing) for 2 weeks before she is spayed and that has not happened yet. She is kept indoors and has no access to any toms in the time that i have had her.
