Do potassium levels affect coat softness?

Hm. His levels weren't super low so maybe it just made the hair less soft. :)

Do potassium levels affect coat softness?

Thanks for the replies! It also occurred to me maybe it was the Churu that I'm mixing the Renal K+ into having some effect, too. I'm not using the type of Churu that specifically is for skin and coat, though.

Do potassium levels affect coat softness?

Hello! My kitty, Baker, has chronic renal failure and recently started receiving the powdered Renal K+ potassium supplement twice a day. I hadn't thought he was showing any symptoms yet, but it turns out his constipation problems were at least partly a potassium issue, as the supplement has...

Could This Be a Hot Spot?

Update: it was indeed a hot spot. Cytology revealed bacteria and inflammatory cels. Kitty got a Convenia injection, an e-collar, and some Genta spray to take home.

Could This Be a Hot Spot?

Thanks for the reply! The spot is on her left shoulder, basically the area she can get at to lick when she turns her head to the side. Her T-4 had gotten up to 13, and that was while she was on the transdermal methimazole. When we switched to the pill, it swiftly went down to 5 and now is back...

Could This Be a Hot Spot?

Hello! I just noticed this patch on my ginger girl. Previously, I'd seen slicked down fur in that area, like she'd been grooming it. Now, there's no fur there and there's a pink area of skin that's thicker than the surrounding skin. Could this be a hot spot? So far, I have wiped the area...

    Chin Acne from Plastic Syringe?

I'm still excited by what a good idea that was about the first aid tape. Thank you again!

    Chin Acne from Plastic Syringe?

    * Yep. Alternating ears and cleaning the other with EpiKlean. * Yep, tried Pill Pockets. Tried other soft treats. Tried cheese. Tried chicken. Tried Churu. She's just too savvy. * That is an EXCELLENT idea about wrapping the tip of the syringe with something. Thank you! We happen to have some...

    Chin Acne from Plastic Syringe?

Hello! My kitty, Riley, is 13 and has hyperthyroidism. She's tough to pill so I was using transdermal methimazole for a while. However, she's just not absorbing it well enough so we have opted to have the methimazole compounded into a liquid. She's only been receiving it in that formulation for...

    Paranoid About Earwax

Thanks for the reply! The vet thinks she may have had clogged pores. It might've started from the transdermal medication, which is in a cream base, and then was exacerbated by the ear drops, which also have a lotion component. I now intend to be vigilant about cleaning her ears in between...

    Paranoid About Earwax

First, some background... A few weeks ago, I noticed that my ginger girl, Riley, was shaking her head more than usual. She also had some orangish-brown substance accumulated around the tips of her ears. I assumed this wax earwax. I gave her Revolution right away in case mites were the issue...

I think I found lumps on my cat?

I've heard that if a lump is movable, that's generally a good sign. The test to confirm it's a fatty lump (or "lipoma") is quick, too. They'll just take a sample via fine needle aspiration and look at the extracted cells under a microscope.

    Buprenorphine After Enucleation

Not that anyone was clamoring for an update, but... kitty is doing great. Regular vet is happy with how he's healing up so far.

    Buprenorphine After Enucleation

Thanks for the reassurance! He got the 0.25 ml dose last night and this morning and seems to be doing fine. I also called our regular vet this morning, who confirmed that the original dose was safe, but agreed we could start tapering down now. Kitty will see regular vet tomorrow, as well, just...

    Buprenorphine After Enucleation

Found another site with dosage guidelines. Focus On Pharmacology | Management of Chronic Pain in Cats According to this chart you can prescribe up to 0.1 ml per kg. Alfie weighs 7 kg, and thus a dose of 0.5 ml is not too much. I'm still going to try a half dose, though.

    Buprenorphine After Enucleation

Thanks for the reply! Thankfully, Alfie does not have any kidney or liver disease currently. We had "senior wellness" blood work done in July with our regular vet but also repeated some pre-surgery blood work at the emergency vet just to confirm, and no issues were noted. I did call the vet...

    Buprenorphine After Enucleation

Hello! My kitty, Alfie (14 years old) had to have his eye removed on Monday due to ulceration/suspected perforation. He weighs 15 lbs and was sent home with some preloaded vials of buprenorphine. Each one has 0.5 ml of medication in it. I've been administering these at around 12-hour...

Essential Oils in Soap for Human Use Only -- is this okay?

Not so far, no. Usually the products I use smell nice while I'm showering but don't linger on me, so I think they might not be terribly strong. I did order some new soaps that are peppermint/spearmint, so it's those I was most concerned about.

Thanks! I'm wondering if I should shut the bathroom door, even.

Essential Oils in Soap for Human Use Only -- is this okay?

Hello! I don't own any indiluted essential oils and I don't have a diffuser. What I do have are some handmade soaps that list essential oils among their ingredients. These may include anise, peppermint, spearmint, cinnamon, etc. I will definitely not be applying these soaps to any of my three...
