    Advice for cat care post-op

Thanks for the replies! He settled in a bit today with the plastic cone, but when the soft one came we put that on and it seems much more comfortable. Also it still does the job of preventing him from reaching his incision--possibly better than the plastic did and it doesn't seem to press...

    Advice for cat care post-op

So Hugo has had some serious surgery [TMI incoming]. He had a stone obstructing his urethra that was lodged too tightly to push back into the bladder with a catheter (catheter couldn't pass it or budge it at all) and so the vet had to place an incision above it and from the best I can understand...

    Help for Hugo - Gofundme

Hugo has had to have surgery to remove a stone lodged too firmly in his urethra, it couldn't be shifted with a catheter and would have ended his life without surgery. He's recovering now but the operation was more expensive than we were quoted and we had already spent so much on unsuccessful...

    urinary tract yeast infection??

I've ordered him a softer, lighter cone from Amazon, arriving tomorrow. Reviews for the inflatable donuts said they didn't offer much protection for lower-body injuries so I went with a cone, but one that should be less obtrusive for him. I have some liquid painkiller he had prescribed earlier...

    urinary tract yeast infection??

Sorry for not updating sooner but it's been a horrifically stressful forty-eight hours or so. Shortly after I made my last post I noticed blood in his urine. I called the out-of-hours number for our vet and they told me that blood in itself didn't mean the situation had escalated but definitely...

    urinary tract yeast infection??

Well, he's not showing any improvement on the new medicine. Now he sits in the box for ages and nothing comes out but a dribble, and then he dribbles some drops on the floor when he gets out. He's going to have to go back to the vet tomorrow and I'm so worried.

    urinary tract yeast infection??

It was my husband who went in with him so I'm getting only secondhand reports of what the vet said. I would hope that the catheter would be in conjunction with some other treatment because obviously we can't insert one every time he needs to empty his bladder. I guess the vet was thinking that...

    urinary tract yeast infection??

So this morning there were only very small drops in the litter box and he growled and hissed when he came out of it and nipped at me when I tried to touch him. We rang the vet and they said bring him straight in, which we did. He did a wee in the carrier (he often does this from nerves) and then...

    urinary tract yeast infection??

Thank you both for the advice, I think we'll call the vet in the morning.

    urinary tract yeast infection??

The vet did do a urinalysis, that's how he detected the elevated bacteria levels. Also, the cat has been taking Cystaid for the past five days as well. He's had an antibiotic shot, Cystaid, and anti-inflammatory painkiller for the past five days with no noticeable improvement--possibly slightly...

    urinary tract yeast infection??

Does anyone have any experience with this? My cat has been struggling in the box, not straining just producing tiny amounts of urine at a time and going frequently. We've taken him to the vet and they checked for crystals (none) and for bacteria (slightly elevated and so they gave him an...

    Mucous And Diarrhoea

Hi everybody, I haven't been on the site for a while, but unfortunately now I have a problem and am hoping for some advice! This afternoon, Hester had a very loose "pudding-like" stool that was smelly. Normally, her poo doesn't smell much. This wasn't stink-up-the-house smelly, just...

    Black Cats Only

Yesterday was Hester's first birthday so I took this picture of her. She's hard to photograph, but I think I finally got one that shows her beautiful face.

    Just saved a dumped kitten

Yes, completely normal. My kittens zonked out for hours after their shots.

That's my birthday! He is definitely special to be born on that day :D

Feeling anxious/guilty about leaving kitten alone!

Just FYI, having two cats isn't necessarily twice as expensive as having one. Vets will often offer a multiple-pet discount, they can share toys and beds, and you can buy food and litter in bulk. When we got our kittens, I was worried about being able to afford them because I wasn't working at...

    Declawing experiences

Well, I'd offer my experience except I don't have any because I live in one of the many, many countries where declawing is illegal. I guess our lawmakers were just carried away by the fearmongering.

    Whats your favorite cat jewelry?

These are my black cat earrrings. They're enamel on copper, handmade. I got them at a craft fair. I'm not really into cat jewellery as a thing, but I bought these because they have little white tips on their tails, which is exactly like my cat Hester.
