He went to the emergency clinic today, obviously not feeling well, with lethargy and loss of appetite and discomfort in his abdomen. And at the clinic we discovered he's also running a fever of a couple degrees above normal. The vet ruled out the things that would have needed immediate...
Call me behind the times, but I just discovered something called "social bookmarking." Now I have no need or desire to share my bookmarks, but the idea of having them stored online is something I'd find useful. I use several computers and several browsers and it's just a royal pain keeping...
Itâ€8482s a bit of an understatement to say that Mellie and Twinkie arenâ€8482t on the best of terms. Sometimes a little quick thinking is necessary to prevent or defuse a confrontation. As an example, today Mellie was napping on the bed. There was a nice patch of sunshine next to her and...
HYMN TO A STRAY CAT
to the tune of “Yankee Doodle”
verse 1
Old brown tiger tabby cat
for a time did roam
now’s the time for him to pack
and travel to his home
chorus
Old brown tiger tabby cat
roaming days are over
Old brown tabby tiger cat
it’s time to now move over
verse 2
Old brown tabby...
... around the house. First time I smelled it I thought one of the cats had an "accident." Nope, they're all using their litterboxes like good little kitties. Well, the latest incident happened this afternoon and the two boys were in the basement, so I have to conclude that Mellie is the...
This morning I was looking for Mellie and couldn't find her. Then I noticed a little pink nose showing from underneath a corner fold of my quilt:
Mellie likes to hide underneath these folds. I think she believes she's invisible in there.
Now, first of all, to get the effect, you must NOT look at the second picture until you read the text below the first picture.
Look at the picture above, and you can see where this driver broke through the guardrail, on the right side of the culvert, where people are standing on the road...
This afternoon when Rocket came in he was crawling with fleas. (Despite being treated with Revolution two weeks ago.) Naturally, he immediately got a Dawn bath. Also naturally, a lot of the fleas managed to jump off and disappear to wherever fleas disappear to. I suppose it's possible these...
Sorry if this has been posted. The forum search function is crashing with a script error, and my browser refuses to search the text on the page, so only a cursory scan over a couple pages didn't find anything on this topic. The topic is "Cats 101", the new cat show on Animal Planet. There is...
None of my cats sleep in their enclosed and heated bed boxes that I made for them several years ago. Rocket isnâ€8482t allowed upstairs because of his ongoing “problem†and Twinkie likes to sleep with Rocket, so both boys sleep in a single cat bed in the basement, keeping each other warm...
Has anybody posted this yet? I stumbled across it while googling for something else and couldn't help laughing out loud IN THE LIBRARY (shh!!). The search function is crashing at the moment, so I couldn't find out if it's already been posted. Enjoy it:

Twinkie just LOOOOOOOOVES raw chicken liver. It's the only meal that I can count on him to clean out his dish. Usually he's a picky eater and leaves food behind. So I do like to treat him to a meal of chicken liver, and do so about once a week. I know too much liver is not good. I've just never...
Is there any practical way of preventing an indoor/outdoor cat from bringing its prey into the house? I'm thinking of installing a cat flap; however, I can't see how a cat flap would keep the "catch" outside where I'd like it to stay.
Mellie got a new toy early this morning. She was so fascinated with the toy that for a while she forgot to pester me for her breakfast.
As you can see, her new toy is just the safety locking ring from my frozen orange juice.
Cats are so serious about their playtime.
I experienced something today that I think needs to be referred to whoever needs to know. Apparently there was some kind of problem earlier today. I got a VBulletin "database error" message. I've seen that before and the problem was with my IE6 browser. So, I fired up Firefox and tried again...
