Getting a cat to eat again after major gastrointestinal surgery

I'm probably going to go pick up some tasty things at the store tomorrow if the appetite stimulant doesn't start kicking in over night. Maybe leave him in the spare bedroom with a little bit of wet and dry and see if he goes for that. I don't trust him in my place overnight without supervision...

Getting a cat to eat again after major gastrointestinal surgery

So Billy's home again! For those who aren't up to speed, Billy ended up at the vet's after he completely stopped eating. We found out that he had an obstruction in his small intestines through exploratory surgery, and he's finally home today, shaved belly and all. The vets were hoping he would...

Need some help ASAP Re: GI masses in cats

Thanks Carolina, and you got a new kitty while I was gone! Violet, post-op stuff is hopefully on the agenda to talk about tonight, so I'll mention the injectable antibiotic if they don't. Thanks for the suggestion!

Need some help ASAP Re: GI masses in cats

Billy is out of surgery! They found a foreign body obstructing his intestines in his stomach and were able to remove it. The vet said that all his intestines look irritated but healthy and flushed with blood after she was able to remove the mass, so she's hopeful that there's no long term...

Need some help ASAP Re: GI masses in cats

Gosh, I hope it does turn out different. How did they find the lump? Palpation, x-ray, ultrasound? As far as I know, his kidneys look okay since the vet was worried about kidney failure and took special care to look at that so he might have noticed "lumps" in other organs. Right now we're...

Need some help ASAP Re: GI masses in cats

Thanks so much everyone. The stomach aspiration showed that all the fluid is just normal stomach fluid, so from a health perspective that's good. We were concerned it might be blood, which would be mucho bad. For right now, they're giving him IV nutrition and we're going with exploratory...

Need some help ASAP Re: GI masses in cats

Thanks Violet. I went to see him this morning before I went into work. He's too weak to lift his head up but he was purring and kneading when I pet him. <3 We have a game plan so far at least. There's fluid in his stomach, and we don't know what that is. So we're going to aspirate that and...

Need some help ASAP Re: GI masses in cats

Hi guys. I haven't been here in awhile - life has taken me elsewheres but I have always recommended these forums to people in need of help or just wanting to talk about cats. I wish I could come under better circumstances, but such is life. I need help this morning, if possible, about what to...

    I desperately want......

I bought an electric piano a few years ago for about 500 dollars - three pedals, full keyboard, and adjustable weighting. I took lessons for 12 years and play classical music, relatively difficult stuff (Chopin nocturnes, Beethoven sonatas and the like) - its sufficient for what I need, except...

    Update: cats fighting drawing blood!

How quickly did you go through the reintroductions and how did you go about doing it? Have you heard of a product called Feliway? It tends to be calming to cats. A very slow reintroduction along with Feliway might do the trick. My boys were doing some fighting, so I took the younger one with...

    Poor Sissycat can't stay warm...

What about something like HotHands? http://www.heatmax.com/HotHands/index.htm They last about 8 hours per little bag, and come in packages of four or eight, I forget which. I had some from my trip to MN, and tried using them for Cally when she was living outside - unfortunately, she didn't...

    Extra dog in my yard...lol

I suppose the darker possibility is that he was dumped in your yard and that's why he has no tags but a collar and shows signs of having possibly been abused in the past...I hope not, he seems like a very sweet dog. Then again, just like some cats like to pay others a visit, maybe he's just a...

    Need your help and ideas!

If your friends are asking about one, I don't see why you shouldn't have one. Its not like you're forcing them to go to one. And since its been a long time since your youngest, you're not going to have a lot of the baby things lying around, just like a first time mom, so I say go for it! Its...

Magic TCS Vibes please? Pretty Please?

Been thinking about you, and very sorry you didn't get the job. Have you considered reapplying for the job you were originally supposed to interview for? They did say they would recommend you for other positions in the company, and that one was open too, right? Here's hoping you get something...
