As long as he isn't ingesting too many fibers, it's fine. I have a 6-year-old cat that has been sucking plush fleece blankets since we got him 4 years ago. He seems to find it soothing and kneads while he sucks. He gets "blanket time" every morning where he's petted and sucks on the crusty parts...
If your cat loves to play with the fishing line, play with him for sure! Even without the play aggression, it's beneficial to both of you!
My cat does the grab nibble bite a bit, but he also has play aggression so it's a fine line because I want to make sure I'm not encouraging my hands are...
I feel you so much on this! I have a thread going right now "Could use some support..." where I first discovered my young guy has stage 3 CKD and am learning to deal with it, including food. He also seems to only want Royal Canin T or D and only when he feels like it. I just have boxes of food...
My parents' cat passed from congenital heart failure around age 5. His breathing was labored because his lungs filled with fluid. They drained them, and then put him on meds. Unfortunately, the meds only gave him a short time, and when his lungs began to fill again they had to put him to sleep...
Hey all, thanks for your support again.
Freddie is a big fan of Weruva's Steak Frites (for now), which actually has a fairly similar protein and phosphorus profile to the Blue Buffalo kidney support food that he used to like. I've gotten him back to eating some of the Royal Canin T along with...
Thank you for your kind words. I am reading a lot about it but a lot of it is unclear. At the end of the day, I'm a regular person who doesn't feel educated enough to make these decisions. Looking at chart after chart and all sorts of research is making things even less clear and making me feel...
I had a cat that rarely every purred, but he adored me and followed me everywhere, as well as cuddled pretty much all the time. It turned out that he purred when he was being petted incredibly roughly and that was about it, but it didn't mean he was unhappy.
As a child, we had a cat that we...
So what I was worried about has begun happening pretty consistently: Freddie doesn't like his renal food. He seemed to enjoy the royal canin loaf, but he's over it. I'm rotating between five types right now and some days he'll eat them and some days he won't. His brother is still eating the...
My sister's cat took a liking to the collectible Starbucks mugs from around the world so they had them all over for a single cat to get her to drink more.
Didn't pick up on that you're trying pellets right off the bat when he was probably using something else. Start with regular litter. It likely needs to be a gradual change.
Can you close the bathroom door to no longer give him access? It's possible at his previous home the litter box was dirty and he decided to go somewhere else and got used to it. (I had a friend with one litter for three cats where this happened, as well as my friend whose cat peed right at the...
My cat used to jump on the counter and eat out of his bowl as I was trying to dish it... One of the more helpful solutions was to give him a place from which to watch me dishing out the food so he knew what was going on. He'd jump up on the counter still occasionally, but it made him less of a...
It sounds like you've thought this over very carefully, and at times like this, that's what you have to hold onto. What you're doing is what's best for him, and that's going to be the final act of love.
Hug him extra every day, spoil him, and treat yourself as kindly as possible. You deserve as...
How about putting a folding screen either on (if there's room you could do a short one) or behind the table?

There's also room dividers, although they're not quite as pretty (but harder to knock over)...
Can you have a cat sitter stay at your house instead of visiting twice a day? That may make a big difference for them. I leave my cats with my parents, but otherwise would pay a sitter to do at least a few overnights if possible while being gone so long.
You may want to consider other things...
Do they actively dislike each other or just kind of ignore the other? We had a cat that never particularly liked her brother, but his existence alone calmed and reassured her when she was really stressed out.
Thanks! I've had a couple with very prominent ones. We always called them "the ultimate predators" since they were built for fighting. (And of course, were spoiled house cats that never fought.)
For the balcony...agreed that if you can make a wire enclosure around the balcony, that would be ideal.
Another suggestion: could you get a large dog crate and just put him in that on the balcony? As long as he can't squeeze through the bars, he'd be able to look and get the full experience...
